|
|
Hey folks,
My monthly poker shindig will be trying out regular Omaha for the first next month, and I was wondering if I could get some advice on which version to start with: Limit Omaha or PLO?
(Is working with Pot Limit at home a pain, chip wise?)
Everyone (8 people) at the table is quite familar with Limit and No Limit Texas Hold 'Em, but almost no one has much of a clue when it comes to Omaha.
Which one is more conducive for the learning of the game? Which is more fun (even for beginners)? (Hi/Lo isn't an option...I love the game, but they grimace whenever I mention it...^^)
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't like either limit or no-limit Omaha. In limit somebody nearly always makes the nuts and you its very difficult to protect your hand. In No-Limit you get all-in or the early streets too often where one hand is barely a favourite over the other.
I would play Pot Limit, on the condition that the players realise that they don't have to bet exactly what's in the pot every time. There are some people that will bet 27648.90 into a 27648.90 pot, and thats just silly and slows down the game. |

| Unless everyone understands exactly how pot limit works I would probably stay away from it. A lot of people don't fully understand how much you can bet in pot limit when faced with a raise. |

| Also, pot limit can be hard to count down every time, and takes a long time for each hand at home. |

At my home game we like to swicth back and forth from omaha to holdem so
we will play NL. I agree that it takes to much time to count up the chips and you dont want seven other people to sit around while one guy counts up the chips.
I also have to say that if your home games is anything like mine you really want to play omaha if your friends are use to holdem. My game has a lot of money flowing because most of my friends are used to needed a better hand when you play omaha compared to holdem. I have made a bunch of money play omaha with my friends. |
