I think this is an instacall almost every time wih my hand and that board as I am unlikely to ever be more than a 3/1 dog, and am usualy in a coinflip with much better odds. But should I have played the flop differently? My thinking is that I want to control the size of the pot with just top pair and potential to improve, so with a small bet I can let go if I get reraised, but given I raised prflop and an ace hit I may just get everyone to fold and I am also likley to get just a call and try to improve cheaply while also building up the pot should I hit. On the turn I honestly think I just bet out cause I did improve a lot, but even though a str8 did potentialy get there, I'm not sure it was a bad play. I would even consider a check-raising as you will often see a set come alive on the turn when they are potentially beat, and even if I am up against the nuts, I am still likley just in a coinflip.

just a thought - perhaps sometimes it would be beneficial to check the flop when you hit top pair and are out of position. then, if they bet you can just call them down unless the straight shows up. Doing this will also give you the chance to check a monster hand when you hit it on the flop.
