Scenario:back-and-forth heads up previous 5 mins. or so, Bullet and I
pretty much have each other sized up, lotsa jabbing and
counterpunching with 2 lows and a brick, etc.

That's really sick, IMO you played the hand fine. Just a cooler. At $1 sngs, you'll see this guy capping a 7 here 100% of the time.

I think you played it fine, just hit the cooler there. Improving to 6-low on 7th is exactly what you were hoping for, and bet it correctly. Just chalk it up to bad luck and play on.

thanx, cd--not that i needed much consolation, but considering the daily barrage of "i got my aces cracked, waaahhh" stories here on the forum...
it was time for a chanfe of pace.

what's even worse is the time i got a straight to the 6 snapped both ways
in a 3-handed stud hi-lo game... Very Happy

Your cap on 7th street was probably the only place I'd have played it different. I'm not capping with 2-3-4-5-6 with this opponent showing three wheel cards.

And I don't buy the idea that he's a donkey just because he's playing $1 tourneys.

Look at it this way. The opponent has a very smooth 7 showing, missing only a single deuce to make a perfect 7. I don't see you (and he probably doesn't see you) raising a rough 7 on the end, and just look at your play if you need to be convinced that's a good read -- you had a rough 7 on 6th street and you didn't raise into him, why would you raise a rough 7 into him on 7th street when you're less likely to be ahead, right?

So unless he's a total donkey, he reads you for either a 7-4 or a made 6, and yet he 3-bets. I don't think your hand is good often enough to justify putting in that 4th bet.

I'm probably raising 6th here hoping for a free showdown, if he 3 bets 6th you check call down regardless of whether or not you improve. The pot is more then big enough.
