How do you think Joseph Hachem will do the rest of his career?

From what I understand the guy is a semi pro down Australia and did buy his way in. I wouldn't be surprised to not see him regularly based on his home, but his playing style seemed to indicate a REAL knowledge of the game. He's a very good poker player.

Anyone who wins the World Series main event is a fluke, but that doesn't mean they're a bad player. Joe Hachem hasn't made any mistakes that I've seen yet.

Anyone that wins is a fluke? Maybe since 2001 or so you have some argument, but you can't say that about Ungar, Chan, or Brunson. The shear numbers are washing out a lot of the skill and also the fact that so many new/internet players are there keeps the pros guessing way more than they used to. Now that Hachem has more capital and backing by PokerStars, you know hell be at a lot more big events in 2006. Only time will tell, I wish him good luck. But PLEASE keep the "Aussie Clan" down under!

Winning any poker tournament requires an extremely improbable parlay of wins - or a fluke. Everybody who has won a tournament ever got lucky, it doesn't matter how skillful they are. Players like Brunson and Chan are just more likely to win than you and I, but they still need to get very lucky indeed.

Brunson beat fields smaller than my local B@M low limit buyin tournaments bring in.

Not discrediting his talents as the man, but he hasnt won one since.

The guy has talent, and he is no fluke.
His first WSOP he wins the main event, and makes the money a second one. He is a semi pro from australia, and seems to play a lot. He will be a greg raymer and we will see him around again, unlike good ol moneymaker who all he is good for is commercials.

KGB if you had 5 mil or whatever Moneymaker won and entered in the amount of tournaments that Moneymaker has, you'd have to do well in some of them. In my mind, he is just an average player. Also, besides commercials, do you really think Moneymaker's bankroll has gone up significantly since the 04 Main Event.

I am not going to go around calling people flukes, because you have to play at a certain level to win WSOP or a WPT championship. Everyone is lucky in poker at some time. Yet, it is your skill that helps you get to a final table. None of the guys are flukes in my mind, but there are some that are better then others. I think Hachem will have a good rest of a career. He made some good plays and has done well back home.

hachem is not a fluke he had a cash finish before the main event and after. he's got a great resume of poker in australia. he's someone we will see around again. maybe not the same accomplishment main event wise as raymer but then again..raymer is far from a fluke.
