| Can anyone tell me where to go to learn how to set up a proxy server. A trustworthy site? Also, will Full Tilt software work through a proxy? |

Are you looking to get around a work/school firewall?
Depending on what you have for a connection at home, and what kind of restrictions you have where you want to run the proxy, you might find it easier to use Remote Desktop or something else to connect to your home machine and then play from there.
Give me a little more detail and I'll see if I can come up with something. |

| I'm at home, I just like running on the heavy side of security. I've run into a lott of issues ( not recently ). Was hacked ( and I mean owned ) not 5 minutes after setting my wireless router. And was averaging 120 hits a day on my firewall. I'm secure now, but what the hell. I like a little padding. |

If you're just looking to setup a local proxy server, I like Privoxy.

It's open-source and reasonably simple to setup. I'm not sure if Full Tilt uses the Windows Internet Explorer settings to access the server through a proxy or not. To my knowledge, it's an SSL connection on port 443, similar to a secure website connection (HTTPS). |

While we're on the subject...
Boomer, this forum has been blocked from where I work. I am VERY tempted to go through a site like www.unseensurfing.com to get onto the forum during my day, but am afraid that when I log in, my password (and therefore, my online bankroll) will be compromised. Am I correct to assume that sites like those would steal my password? Is there any trustworthy site that you know of that is safe? If not, is there any other way to get around the block without going through a shady site?
PS - Rick, if you read this, I'd love you forever if it was possible to keep our forum passwords separate from our account passwords. |

Not a problem.
KGB, as I'd suggested to Leon earlier, it might be possible for you to use Windows Remote Desktop, or something like VNC to remotely connect to your home desktop, then surf the site from there. Personally, I like Ultra VNC, available here:

I'd be leery of using my login credentials through a proxy I didn't know/control for the exact reason you mention.
Another option is to setup your own VPN (virtual private network) on your home machine, then use a VPN client to connect from work to home. The connection between the machines is encrypted via SSL, much like a secure website connection.
OpenVPN server with GUI for Windows.

You could then use the built-in Windows VPN client to connect from work to home, although you'd need to either:
a. Know your home IP address.
b. Have a dynamic DNS address setup so you could access your home computer by name.
DynDNS.org allows you to setup a free dynamic hostname, such as KGBlovesoreos.dyndns.org that you can have refer to your home machine.

I've set up Ultra VNC (1.0.3 RC6) on my home PC now, but the website where I d/l the program from didn't exactly have a tutorial for the program. Care to give me a few hints on how to use it from home and my office? |

There's a nice section on installing the program and having it start as a service here:

You'll want to assign a password for access. Essentially, you let VNC run as a service on your home machine, so every time your computer boots, VNC is available.
Ideally, you'll find the IP address of your work connection (which shouldn't change) and setup your firewall to allow just that IP to connect to the VNC service at home.
To connect, you install and run the VNC viewer application from your other computer. You enter the IP address of your home machine and once the basic connection takes place, you'll get a password prompt. Enter the password and you'll see your home desktop in a window on your work machine. |
