Another session of micro limit, another session of frustration. I seriously hadn't hit a flop in about two hours, and then this hand happens. Did i over play it?

I need to vent a little too. On days i'm not getting donked in limit, I'm just getting unlucky. I had one hand all day that improved on the turn or the river, and my opponent flopped a set anyway and ended up with a boat. Will it ever end?? |

You surely didn't overplay this. Maybe seeing the flop was questionable, but beyond that, it was just a cooler.
The flop was ragged, and you have to love your set there. The turn only makes your hand more valuable w/o much possibility that you are beat. The re-raise on the turn could just as well be QT, AQ, KK, or AA, possibly AsKs, or any other flush draw.
The river is essentially a blank, and a set of 2s looks like gold, IMO.
Just a cooler. |

| I don't think you overplayed your hand. In fact I think you got lucky that he underplayed his hand by not 3betting the river. |

Yeah, i figured. The "tight, relaxed" player in me told me to just call when he fired the river bet. But i had less than 3 BB left in my stack anyway at that point, and if you can't go broke with a set and a non threatening board, what can you go broke with??
And you're right Hu, i'm surprised he didn't reraise me for my last 70 cents there. I guess he figured me still sitting at the table in the next hand was worth more than that lol. |

| No, you didn't overplay it. That isn't humanly possible on that board and with that action without some kind of sick read or unlimited raises. |

No, this is one of those 'perfect' hands where you want to wait until the turn to pull the trigger. The flop is ragged, no straight or flush draws to worry about, and overcards (which are drawing dead) will call one bet on the flop but not 2, so keep them in for now as you have position.
When the turn comes, the bet size doubles so it's value time. Perfectly played, just a cooler. |

At these levels, a raise on the flop isn't a bad play, and rarely do i "slowplay" big hands on the flop. But my thinking was the same as fire eyes here. I didn't want to raise and make the LP players think twice about cold calling with hands like overcards, 1 pair, and gutshots. I also didn't want to see the original raiser 3 bet and chase away the EP callers as well.
Like fire eyes said, this was a perfect flop to slow play and keep players in, with no flush draws or probable straight draws to worry about. |

I see your reasoning for not raising the flop, but failing to raise on the flop is awful here. In a game where the best players are only averaging a few BB per hour, it's almost never correct to pass up opportunities to get money in the center with what we expect to be the best hand, unless the reason for doing so is incredibly favorable.
I cold call on the flop at times to set up a check raise on the turn; this loses me half a big bet on the flop to possibly get in an extra whole big bet on the turn. Here we may have kept maggsmurph in the pot by merely calling, but if we had raised, certainly the players who had already put in $.50 would have called, which would already offset the profit we would gain from hanging maggsmurph.
I hate to ramble on a play that you never asked us about here, though. To the original question, which has mostly been answered, no, you did not overplay it. |

I disagree grip. If the guy didn't have a set that raise could easily kill the action. People have a tendency to check to the raiser, and the last thing we want is to have everyone check to us on the turn, and then fold. Think about Mcfie having AT, AQ, overpair or a ragged two pair. He will probaly bet the turn again. If we reraise postflop, he might just check call.
Mathman played this hand perfect and hit a cooler, plain and simple. |

Hm. Good points, monnot. I don't know. It seems pretty rare in multiway raised pots for a one SB raise on the flop to kill the action, no?
Calling just doesn't feel at all right to me. I'm going to ask a limit player whom I respect a lot.
EDIT: I asked the 2+2 forum instead. I posted the HH with my name in place of mathman's, and asked if I should have raised on the flop. Here's a link:

| After reading the other post and looking at it again, I can agree im more toward the raise on the flop. If the guy has an overpair he will almost certainly 3 bet there and on the turn. I don't think the call was a bad play though, and I probally would have done it, but maybe thats a leak in my game. |

I feel your pain. It has happend only two or three times to me. It does happen. I don't think you overplayed the hand. But it happend to me one time when i filled up. I made 4's full of 5's. My 2 oppnents made 5's full and 6's full. That's poker.
