Hand 1: Played very well. Perhaps you could maybe try raising on 6th when he bets into you, since you have a scary looking board. But also he is probably a donkey, and he is betting into you, so the call is probably the better play.

Hand 2: I would have raised the completion. Try and get the pot heads up, and put him on the defensive. I think the fold after he pairs his door card is good, because you would have to call a lot to find out whether he has 3 10s or not.

Hand One: I completely agree with what advice Strasse gave you. I don't think the villain has aces up yet, and that you could make two pair or the flush to win the pot here.

Hand Two: Honestly; I think just calling the completion is the better play here since one of your jacks and a seven is dead already. By not raising him on third, it would make it easier for you fold the hand later on if you don't improve (and with the dead cards, you're obviously less likely to) and he catches some scare cards. I do agree with the fold on 4th.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm pleased to see that pretty much I played it ok. Stud has always been my worst game. Here's how the first hand played out. There's no reason for me to bet 7th is there? Will I ever be called by anything I can beat?

First hand is standard.

No way do you raise on third street for the second hand. That is awful advice. One jack and a seven is dead and it is highly unlikely that the two opponents who are already in are folding. All you do is bloat the pot early, giving them correct pot odds to outdraw you. As a matter of fact, I'd actually fold this hand a tight, solid table on third street. You don't have much chance for improvement early and you're only going to feel comfortable if you hit the case jack.

At your table, calling third and folding fourth is standard.
