But it is important to use those tools correctly.
If you read your poker book as if it were a novel, that is you don't really process the information presented, you will learn little or nothing.
An effective approach for studying from books (poker books or school books) is to:
1. Read a chapter (or entire book if short) to get a general sense of the topics being covered and how those topics are organized.
2. Practice (poker)/attend lecture (school).
3. Return to the book and re-read one section at a time taking as much time as required to process the information.
4. Practice implementing what you learned in #3.
5. Return to step #3.
If you are already an intermediate player you can skip steps #1 and #2 and jump straight to a modified #3:
#3 Read lightly until you encounter information that is new or covers an area where you are weak--then read that section/chapter carefully.
#4 and #5 as before.
Many players do not bother to read the books with any care or effort put into processing the information contained. If you read a book without actually processing the information it contains, you'll learn very little--if you learn anything at all.
For those of us who do not have a live mentor watching DVDs (and some shows) can provide a valuable illustration of how principles are implemented. |
This will NEVER work unless you play LIVE play at a table looking you opponents in the eye. With all the CHEATING on this site, books, and all the other money pits will never work |

I found this really cool tool that has helped improve my poker game. Here’s how the site describes it.
http://pokerzion.com/No-Limit%20advisor.asp
PokerZion's No-limit Advisor is FREE of charge to all registered members of our site, including free trial members. The No-limit Advisor is a great tool for understanding a variety of pre-flop & post-flop situations for full ring play. It is specifically designed for small stakes players who play buy-in limits of 100NL or below. It is a proven winning strategy if used properly.
Poker Stats: If you follow the advisor on almost every pre-flop play, then your poker stats will look something like the following: VPIP: 14-16% - PFR: 8-11% - WTSD: 21-24% BB/100: 2BB-10BB
Notes about stats: This is a rounded average mean range based on many students who have used the advisor. These stats for full ring play are not the absolute most optimal, however they are a winning strategy that will allow you to learn and expand your game as you get more comfortable at the poker table.
Download Information: To download and use the no-limit advisor, simply choose an access level from below and sign-up. You will then be given access to download the advisor.

| Hi, I am hoping you guys can help me pick out which book on I should read next. I just finished my first poker book "Professional No-Limit Hold'em" and it was absolutely excellent! When does Volume 2 come out? Do you guys have any suggestions of/or the next book(s) on NL Hold'em that I should read? |

I went by Barnes & Noble today and bought Phil Gordon's Little Blue Book and Harrington on Hold'em Volume I.
I will probably pick up Killer Online Poker eventually if it gets more good reviews on here, I just haven't heard much about it yet. |

Last I heard, it comes out in either summer or fall of this year, but that update was back in Jan or Feb. Check out the two plus two online magizine. It normally has those types of updates in there.
I'd suggest getting Card Runners instead of getting any new poker books. It teaches a lot of information that just can't be taught in a book. |

| Yea, they are very repetitive. I definately did not find them very useful as compared to other books. It doesn't improve your online play as much as the title sounds, you would be much better off reading the harrington series again. |

| Alright sweet, the title sounded too good to be true lol. I read Gordon's Little Blue Book and it was ok but I am really enjoying Harrington on Hold'em Volume I so far. |

I heard that you should stay away from negreanu's and hellmuth's books..although ive never read them. but different reviews seem to agree that these books are not worthwhile.
But these pros plus loads of others actually give out great advice on various poker shows on tv, articles in magazines and internet.
However, from my own experience, playing yourself is the most important thing. But when you find out yourself what you should do, then read the similar concept in a book/article, thats when youre on the right path-and prob the best way forward.
At the moment, the only book that stands out for me is Mike Caro's Book of tells. this is an absolute BIBLE in low buyin tournametns at a live casino. But i think it wont work against good players. |
