|
|
As im sure any fan of poker knows, EVERY major tournament has players that pay other players buy ins in exchange for a cut o ftheir winnings, etc. FOR example when scotty ngyuen won the MAIN event, Mike Matusow had paid his buy in in exchange for 33% of the winnings - even though Matusow ALSO played in the main event. My question is this:
If i have a friend that i play poker with, and we want to enter the same tournament, and agree to split any winnings so as to give a better chance to make a profit BUT WE DO NOT IN ANY WAY SOFT PLAY, SHARE CARDS, ETC. is this "colluding"? logic suggests it is not, so i suppose my real question is - does FULL TILT consider this colluding. I do it all the time in live games, in another post i mentioned i just won a tournament last night - well in that tournament i had made a deal that if me or my friend won we would give the other 100 bucks (buy in was 50) and i knocked my friend out of the tournament on the 6th hand. IT in no way affects my play, just a personal agreement between two players -- IS THIS LEGAL?? im scared to do it on full tilt lol i dont want you guys to think im some scumbag CHEATER!? please let me know this is very interesting to me.... Thanks |

| I wouldn't say its colluding. I think it was the WPC Championship in AC(the espn one) recently where the winner was staked by his buddy to split the winnings and they ended up being the final 2 left. It was a known arrangement. Where the backing comes from as long as there is no attempt to undermine the outcome is irrelavent. |

| this sort of thing happens all the time. one of my other friends usually backs another one of my friends for online tournaments, and its no big deal. they just transfer money back and fourth between eachother when they make a profit. its not cheating unless you share cards or do other stuff. |

| then what if the people who are in it together decide to talk on the phone while in the tourny waiting for the oppurtunity to double up a friend?this seems all to easy to do!i also have questions about private tournies because of this same tactic.it happens but i feel it's immoral and wrong!if me and 50 friends sign up for a tourny we should be playing individually not together!i understand the post doesnt say this, but it is just way to easy for this to happen when players are backing each other.i DO feel it's collusion for this purpose alone. |

| also if 80 of 100 people playing a tourny are agreeing to split winnings because it will increase odds, then is this not cheating the other 20 people who are playing individually?are you telling these 20 people what theyre up against?i believe if they knew they wouldnt play! even if your not on the phone your trashing innocent peoples odds in this situation. |

| well ur obviously a poker fan cuz u play on this site, so perhaps u arent aware this goes on in EVERY major 10k buy in tournament, sometimes more, sometimes less - but ALMOST ALWAYS, and ESPECIALLY in whe WSOP ud be shocked - i read about this **** now and then im not just pulling it out of my ass - pros do it and talk about it openly. So, its a part of the game, if i win, is it not MY money? can i not give it to whomever i choose? suppose you AND your girlfriend play in a tournament for fun, and u place - will she be paying her half for dinner? lol of course not, so since its insane to attempt to control what players do with their winning isnt it more important to focus on making sure they arent working together? its fairly easy to tell if you are REALLY playing hard against one another, and BELIEVE ME - knowing theyre watching me -- ill go ALL IN on my friend all day long there no way id EVER cheat, and i DEFINITELY disagree with your saying its the same as cheating... just think about the girlfriend analogy - its a good point. However, i will admit it takes a sense of "mystisicm" off the game and makes u think of it more as like fixed or rigged, but its ALWAYS gonna be a part of it, thats just how gamblers are lol, so i figure why not? we arent cheating the other players, just giving some of our winnings to our "girlfriends" ........ |

| I don't think it is collusion, as long as you do not in any way aid each other during the tournament. Ferguson and somebody else (Annie Duke, I believe, but I am not sure) agreed to each pass each other 5% of their winnings during a major tournament, and have done that ever since. Trading winnings is not collusion, it's purposely playing in a way that is unfair to other players in the tournament that is collusion. |

Don't you think Comrad that people could call each other for online tourneys and work together at casinos, regardless of who pays the buy in? Those that cheat wil always find a way to cheat. Are you a conspiracy theorist Comrad? |

lol zopher, he is! if u look in the private tourney post someone left the game name and password and invited all forum members to come play - at which point comrad replied - and this is from memory not an EXACT quote, but it was basically like this: "Well it is good that you invite people to your tournament, hopefull you and all your friends arent planning to just keep inviting people to build up the pot so you can take advantage of everyone foolish enough to trust you and all split it!! Hopefully this is a warning to anyone who wants to play a private tourney.... BEWARE"
lol
meanwhile, i do not know a SOUL on this forum, and i thought that was very nice that KGB offered an open invitation so i signed up - lol if theres like 10 kids all working together to steal my 5 dollar entry they might as well just ask me, ill transfer them 5 bucks and save them the trouble. lol dont be ridiculous comrad this isnt a 1,000 dollar buy in... |
