In razz do straights anf lushes count against you for low? I have started to get interested into lowball and stumbled accross this rule. Does it apply to razz or is it just a lowball rule?

Thanks Smile

No straight or flushes in razz. Only your 5 lowest cards play. No pairs either.

In razz, straights and flushes don't count against you. Pairs, trips, etc. do hurt you though. But remember, you only count your best five cards, so AAA2345 is still the nuts. These lowball rules stand for Omaha H/L and Stud H/L too (for the low hands, that is). Unlike these two games, however, there is no low "qualifier" in razz. 3456J would give you a J-low in razz, while in O/8 or S/8, you would not have a low hand at all because it is not "eight or better."

To elaborate on your question a bit further, other "popular" games such as 2-7 Draw (aka Kansas City Lowball) and 2-7 Triple Draw do count straights and flushes against you. In addition, as their names imply, aces are counted as high and not low in these variations.
