Full Tilt Poker
Limit Holdem Ring game
Limit: $0.50/$1
9 players

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is CO with 8 Spade A Spade
5 folds, Hero raises, Button folds, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop: 9 Club 7 Club A Club (6SB, 3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, SB calls, BB folds.

Turn: Q Spade (4BB, 2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, SB raises.

this one always annoys me. no reads. i figure the delayed check-raise usually means something strong. what do you do?

also, should i have considered checking on the turn?

Wow this is a tight one. I think you're still ahead here, but I'm not certain so I go into call down rather than 3-betting. If he had 2pair or a stronger ace he would have c/r'd the scary flop, so unless he flopped the flush (unlikely) then you should be in the lead.

I would go into calldown mode if you have no other reads on him, as I think most of the time you are ahead...

Too many times, people will do the old checkraise a 4 flush in this situation to try and push you out of the hand.

Three betting is an option in this situation sometimes, but let me say you have to know your opponent. You can represent the big flush and maybe get someone off a better hand from time to time(from the C/O I will raise with a KJ or a KQ). I would have to say be careful when trying this as it can get very expensive as you open yourself up to a rereaise on the turn which would force you into letting the hand go. You will also have to bet the river if you 3bet the turn to keep up the "I flopped the flush" act.

At .5/1 I'm prone to giving villian credit until I find out they are capable of making a move. At this level lots of players want to c-r monsters on the turn. There are also a handful that virtually always c-r the turn.

Given that you are 2BB to call down I think calling down to find out which sort of villian you are facing isn't all that bad. If he is one of the small number of habitual turn check-raisers then you'll get those bets back soon enough. If he is the more common "trapping" check-raiser you'll save those bets before too long.

Let me get this straight. You are playing No-Limit and you move allin with 10 3 os. In this Limit game, you fold top pair for 50 cents???? LOL!!! You ARE a HUJWANG.

Honestly I don't bet this flop when checked to me. By betting you're simply giving better odds for them to draw while you hold a vurnerable hand. I say it's vurnerable b/c you have no redraw here and you know a club draw, set, TP, two pair, str8 draw, or an ace with a better kicker isn't going anywhere. In other words the only hands that will fold here are ones that have totally whiffed and there is very little fold equity in a flop bet.

The way you played the hand however. The turn is an easy call. As is the river barring a club. IMO his most likely hand is holding a Q with a baby flushdraw or an ace as well. I estimate you will win this hand about 70% of the time.

I'm folding here. Without a good read, this looks too much like he flopped the flush.

When he calls the flop bet, he's saying he has something. The cr on the turn means he thinks he has the best hand.

I'm assuming that since you don't have a read on him, he's not likely to have a read on you.
