Here are a few scenarios that I often run into often and would like to get some thought on how most would play them (if at all).
The first one is an actuall hand I played (sorry no hh) that I think I did the correct thing on but is quite questionable especially with the preflop call. So I am on the button and get 9TJQ facing a raise from a solid mp player so I decide to reraise to see where I stand. The bb repots for about a quarter of my stack and the mp raiser calls. Now it is back to me and I decide to callas well. My reasoning is that the BB is a fish that I can stack if I hit and since the mp player only called he also probably has a big but not a premium one which he still does not want to let go of against a fish. Now the flop come 78K rainbow. The bb fish bets the pot and the mp calls after some though so I decide to call as well thinking the only hand I am really behind in this spot is aginst KKK, and I am getting about 3/1 odds on my money. As it turns out the bb had AAxx and the mp player hit 2 pair with K8xx (no redraw either) so I was favored out of the 3 when the $ went in at about 45% to win. So from a strictly pot odds perspective I am going to come out well ahead in this spot in the long run with 3/1 on my $ when I expect to win about half the time, however is it really a good idea to call that much both pre and post flop with just a drawing hand? |
