If you're a good player use bankroll management and the rest will take care of itself. Stick to cash games, don't waste your time on the SnG's, they take too long for little return. Obviously rakeback is a huge help. Follow the basic rules of 30 buy ins for NL and 300 big bets for limit. If you're good give yourself a $60 bank roll stick to $0.01/$0.02 NL and you'll eventually work your way up to bigger games. If you work your way up and hit a cold patch (which will happen) don't be afraid to drop down a limit if you fall below the 30 buy in's. Best of luck.

Sorry but I have to disagree with the only stick to cash games and stay away from sng's. sng's are a great way to build your roll with less risk than in cash games. Trust me, I know this by experience.

i agree about the risk factor which can also help with confidence to make the right decision.
eg. playing good aggressive poker and not overly cautious

Just tried that - and it worked!

I played regularly on the Austrian software win2day.at and there I started with nothing. Never ever made a deposit. I was just playing the only freeroll there was once in a day. If u get into the money u get somthing between 0,05 - 0,30. It took a while to get my euro to play. I played a small sng an won it. From where on everything went his way. In the end a hand approx. 250 €.

The only thing u need is dedication!

I did from zero starting with a 7$ freeroll win, then added a 2$ freeroll win, then hit the Ferguson 1$ tournament for 2nd place and got 141$ out of that, next I cashed in the bronze which I qualified for by playing the .25/.50 limit tables, did it again the following month,WSOP 08 series helped when I cashed in 2 of those,by then I was qualifying for silver, switched to .50/1 stud for a while but I have,nt looked back since the 141$ win.Used my points to get 26$ tokens and made good finishes with some of those.End of story I play .50/1 or 1/2 regularly now and put a decent amount in my bank account.I have had a few cold streaks along the way but I'm in my 15th month of playing off a freeroll win.Best to you.

I went busto some months ago, a week ago i logged back in and saw a single dollar remained(rakeback deposit) i couldnt play any sit and goes so i hit the 0.01 tables won a dollar and .50 played the 1 dollar sit and goes until i had 6 dollars then heads up 4 player 2 dollar buy in. From there on i have played 2 dollar buyin until i hit 50 and 5 dollar buy in from there on. Now i got a nice playing roll of 110dollar. Hopefully this roll will go to the moon.

As far as the advice "stick to what you're good at" concerning ring games or SnG or MTT....I wish I had taken this advice. I win enough at MTT and SnG to make a profit but ring games have killed my bankroll.

Yea, I've been realizing that alot latly. Bad beats seem so often and awful at the cash tables. Ive been doing well in sit n gos, especially satellites. I enjoy playing the 9 player sng for the 200k double deuce. But sngs and mtt's are for myself.

PostPosted: Sat Mar 07, 2009 12:33 pm    Post subject: Question about star Reply with quote

I am currently a star for total profit at the $2 NL Holdem heads up level and average profit at the same level. However, these limits are below what I commonly play. Therefore, I am rapidly falling down the total profit leaderboard until the point where I most likely will not be on it any longer very soon. Should I worry about the star leaderboard and play some games at this lower limit to stay on the board or should i continue playing the higher limits that make me more money?
