PokerStars 2/4 Hold'em (10 handed) from (Format: FlopTurnRiver Cards)
Preflop: Hero is CO with , .
1 fold, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls, MP1 calls, 2 folds, Hero raises, 2 folds, BB calls, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls, MP1 calls.
Flop: (10.50 SB) , , (5 players)
BB checks, UTG+1 checks, UTG+2 checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets, BB folds, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 folds, MP1 folds.
Turn: (6.25 BB) (2 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero checks.
River: (6.25 BB) (2 players)
UTG+1 bets, Hero calls.
Final Pot: 8.25 BB
First question, was I correct to bet that flop? Even if I bet and the player behind me raises, the others still have the odds to chase, particularly as 78 seems a pretty plausible hand here. I'm even slightly drawn to the check/fold.
On the turn, looking at potential ranges, 88 and 77 have just overtaken me, and I think any bet on the turn was pretty much asking for a check-raise, so I'm happy with the check-there. Do you call or fold the river getting 7:1? Results below.
UTG+1 has Kh 2h (one pair, nines).
Hero has Ah Ad (two pair, aces and nines).
Outcome: Hero wins 8.25 BB.
This I think leads me to a further question of just how far to play AA in LHE. How much opposition do you have to meet to be able to lay them down on the flop? If there had been a flop bet and raise before my turn to act, then I would have had no issue mucking them, but say the flop was KKQ and there were 3 or 4 players? Then what? Its a dangerous but not deadly flop. |

I like your bet on the flop. This is a horrible flop for you, but you still need to bet to get some info, and its only a small bet.
Because you got 3 to fold to that bet, and its heads up on the turn, i would even bet the turn. You're opponent didn't check raise the flop with players to act after him, so it is likely he could be on a draw, especially with that board. With just one opponent, i bet the turn, and then check down the river. If it had been more than two players to the turn, then i would check down the rest of the hand and pray. |

First question, was I correct to bet that flop? I'll first pretty much agree with mathman's assessment, but it would be useful if you had PT so you could post villain(s) stats or at least how you felt your opp(s) play, loose/tight passive/agg but the former is preferred. You are definately right to cringe at that flop facing multiple opponents but it doesn't mean you shouldn't bet. Even if you are raised you can't necessarily assume you are behind, many hands that are behind here (albeit some with monster draws) will check raise or bet into you.
On the turn, looking at potential ranges, 88 and 77 have just overtaken me, and I think any bet on the turn was pretty much asking for a check-raise, so I'm happy with the check-there.
I don't think the check was horrible but i'm not certain i prefer it to betting. Most of the hands that just outdrew you on this turn will fire the donk bet to prevent giving a free river card that could give you a flush or tying or better straight. Its close and again I don't think slowing down is awful.
Do you call or fold the river getting 7:1? Results below.
Always call
This I think leads me to a further question of just how far to play AA in LHE. How much opposition do you have to meet to be able to lay them down on the flop?
This should be extremely rare and you should have profiled a villain for a long time to fold AA on a flop.
If there had been a flop bet and raise before my turn to act, then I would have had no issue mucking them, but say the flop was KKQ and there were 3 or 4 players? Then what? Its a dangerous but not deadly flop.[/quote]Again, situational and you need to have good reads on villains, you don't want JT to steal your cash. Buy PT.
I'll just repeat some good advice I've heard here on the forum, AA are not rockets, bullets, sharpies or anything else. They are one pair, play them as such. |
