|
|
I was just looking for some suggestions for structuring a points leaderboard type thing for a weekly home poker game. Something along the lines of the Toyota Player of the Year thing for the WSOP. Our idea is to take a % of the prize-pool each week and put it aside, and then at the end of the year split it between the top 3 players in overall points.
We play 1-2 nlhe tournaments a night, and usually have 7-10 guys. It is basically a set group of guys that are going to be playing, but from game to game the number of players and who actually shows up will vary.
One suggestion we've been given is to give a point for playing, plus one point for each guy who busts out ahead of you. So if 10 guys played, the winner would get 10 points 2nd would get 9, and so on. I like this idea for two reasons. 1) it takes into account the size of the field 2) it is better to play and bust out first than not to play, and i want to reward the guys who are playing more often
But it has one big problem as far as I can see. It doesn't factor in anything for making the money or winning the tournament (other than the places you move up by doing so) So it's not really a true reflection of poker success. The guy who gets blinded away and busts out on the bubble everytime would be a consistent loser but have a really good point total at the end of the year.
If anyone has done something like this or has any suggestions, that would be great. |

I just saw the Texas Holdem League Tourmanent post, and after browsing his web site, I came across his points system, which is basically the same that I mentioned before, but players also recieve points for placing in the money.
1st- 10 points
2nd- 7
3rd- 5
4th- 4
5th- 3... ect
Keep in mind, if you do not place in the money, you do not get these extra points. You only recieve the one point for entering and one for each person who busted out in front of you.
What does everyone think about this system? Or are there any other suggestions?
Thanks, Mike |

| I actually headed a similar system, where we played NL tournaments and recorded the results. The best way to do it, is give points according to profit, because in this way, you'll never be faced with conflicting interests. If you give more points for each higher spot, it rewards players who don't finish in the money. There is nothing better about a 4th place finish than a 7th place finish, assuming neither place is paid. |

| That's a good point grip. The winner of the thing shoud be the person who played the best poker, not the one who stays alive the longest. How did you do yours? Just give out points proportional to each players profit for that game? Or maybe instead of profit, just give out points for the net win (that way no one would get negative points)? |

| Right, a non money finish is worth 0. If the buy-in were $20, and 3rd place made his/her money back, 3rd place would be worth 20 pts. |
