I've had this happen several time, especially when sitting in seat 5 or 6. that the player to my right or left looks at their cards in such a way that I can see them.

my question is,
is it my responsibility to avert my eyes, so i don't see their cards,
or it is their responsibility to protect their hand??

once, i even told the lady next to me, "hey, maybe you should cover your cards better, because i can see them" don't know if she got it, because she still continued to expose her cards almost every hand.

also, if another player or the dealer or floorman, notices that i can see the exposed cards, could i get in trouble or ejected??

honestly i DON"T TRY to look at other players cards, but sometimes its so out there, its hard not to.

I would think its the player's responsibility to not expose their cards, but just wondering if anyone knows the offcial rules on this.

I had this happen to me in a live game just the other night. The person to my right kept doing it so much, I almost thought he wad doing it on purpose to keep me from looking at him. I basically just looked away whenever he looked at his cards since it was so easy to see them.

I always warn them once and after that thier cards are fair game... The players do have some responsiblities at the table and not exposing thier hole cards is one of them... No you can't get in trouble as long as you arent like leaning over and tryin to see thier cards.. if they are in your field of vision what are you supposed to do??? Bad move on thier part, good edge for you... if they are stupid enough to not heed your advice and cover thier cards then peek all you want Wink

So long as you can see the cards without making an inordinate effort to do so, you are not obliged to look away.

Poker etiquette says you tell them the first time, but you're free to look if them keep it up. It's up to them to protect their hand.

Anyone ever play with people at their table you actually take the cards off the table, hold them close to their chest, and lean back to look at them?

Too funny.

In my home game, we have a couple players (and one in particular) who constantly take their cards off the table. The "one in particular" is bad because he doesn't always put them back. He'll keep them in his hands and tuck them away when he crosses his arms and junk. It's not an issue of being able to see them, it's an issue of not knowing he's still in the hand (and, obviously, you don't get away with the "armpit manuever" in a casino).

Another of my players is a habitual card-shower (um, "revealer"). Not because he raises them up to far or picks them up to look, but because he's a story-teller. He'll get involved in telling some story before the deal, pick up his cards to look in the middle, then continue with the story while gesturing for emphasis (he's a "hand-talker") with his cards in hand. It's really funny because we have to tell him two or three times a night, sometimes during the same hand. Laughing
