I have a friend who I work with and has an account on here, he has never made a deposit and won $4 in a freeroll, he has it at about $160 right now I believe.

A lot of people have 'taken a shot' with their winnings, gotten lucky enough to avoid variance and built a roll quickly. I went with the long slow grind and I'm currently up to about $650.

Grinding is more successful. You'll hear the stories about the people who took a shot and made it, but you won't hear the 100 stories of the people who didn't. And you don't want to be one of those stories... Play freerolls until you build up $40 then go to the .05/.10 tables and buyin for $4 at a time. That should allow you to handle some variance. Or, if you prefer to play SNGs, you can take the $40 to the $1 + 0.25 SNGs and try to build there. You want a minimum of 10 buyins at the ring tables or 30 buyins (including fees) for the SNGs.

Good luck. If you're successful, come back and let everybody know.

On a Tribeca network site i managed to get my roll up to over $4000 in 12 months after cashing for 27c in a freeroll. Came to Full Tilt to try and replicate it, but 4 months on and i seem to be stuck around the $40/50 mark.

Love the challenge though

im basically in the same position that tournamentpro is in i hav placed in about 5 freerolls but never got it up to more than $10. Ive tried everything but there r a few assumptions i hav made

1) Do not play in ring games when u hav $2 to $5 it doesnt make sense to play on them cuz people wit 100s of dollars r playing wit u and r not afraid to raise $2 but u r afraid to put it in sadly they will slowly take ur blinds and u will lose all of u money

2) Do not play in mtt cuz in order to place u will need some luck and if u happen to run into bad luck then ur out of chips. My suggestion is to either play in sng hope to place and once u hav enough money then play in some mtt and hope to get lucky...even though if i tried 5 times a day to place in a freeroll i could probably place once but sadly i dont hav that kind of time.

Playing in freerolls is the best way to build up a stack wit out any risk if u dont want ot lose money then i suggest this to a regular person.

ps. Hope u hav more luck than i Smile [/list]

I have never deposited and I'm up to $920. First time I won a FR I lost my money pretty fast, I got it up to $20 then lost it all cause i sucked. A couple of months later i cashed in consecutive FR's and took the $4 to a ring game, when i got it up to about $15 i started playing SnG's and tourneys and never looked back. If you can get up to about $20 you should be pretty safe grinding it out in $1 SnG's.

Chris Ferguson is attempting to turn $0 into $10,000. He told me he's up to about $160 at the moment. No doubt he'll get to $10K, just a matter of time.

well i guess that makes 3 of us, because i have placed in 3 or 4 of them with no luck after that. Ive tried playing tables and ive tried playing sng's, with no real payout from either. Now i know im not the best in the world but i guess i have some skill to place 6th in a limit HORSE tourney

o well.......all i can say is a wish i had $650$ in my account Very Happy

Is this something a beginner should be able to do? I've never played freerolls, so I don't know how difficult it is to cash in them.

But say you had a friend that wanted to learn to play, you play a little heads up with them, teach them some basics, then you set them up on the playmoney tables, they start getting the hang of it, you hook them up with a book and some more advice. They start doing pretty well in play money and want to try going for real money.

Regardless of whether they can afford to deposit or not, would it be good training and a reasonable next step to have them try to build a bankroll from freerolls until they have about 40 and then move onto $1+.25SNGs? They'd have something to really be proud of and it should hone their skills fairly well, table time is table time.

Is this practical? Or do you have to be somewhat experienced to have a chance of making this work?

I personally like the idea of the challenge, but I think if I did it i'd be using it as an excuse not to test myself at the levels i'm playing and getting ready to move into. Bankroll says its time to move up and i'm scared instead of anxious. Weird...but different thread.

It is a challenge building a bankroll from freerolls.

As for the moving up in levels, it will also help build the patience to play in your level and bankroll management. The skill you build grinding at lower levels will definatly help when your bankroll is enough to move up in levels.

Pokerstars $1.70
Full Tilt $24 + 430 points (value ~$2).
Prima $180.91
TropicalPoker $459.66 (but cashouts cannot drop balance below ~$250).
Pokerworld $383.20 + 152,100 points (which is like having T$304.20).
NETeller $50 (previously cashed out from TropicalPoker to check it worked).

So total value $1,405.67 but only $849.47 can be directly cashed out.

Its not worth mentioning because no one will believe it (except for a few that know me well on this forum). I have you all crushed, and further, my roommate has me crushed--and Furgeson.

I started with $8 from a freeroll on AP. I got up to 400 or so, then switched to Full Tilt, adding 50 dollars of my own. Including 200 or so I got from the bonus, I have over 1k now. It can be done.
