New to Ftp but not online play. I've noticed a lot a of private freerolls for specific countrys but none for the US. Somewhat confusing as to why not, even Canada has their own freeroll. Any specific reason for this?

As a side not, really impressed with some of the post and players here. Nice to run across some good competition for a change.

Good point. I added a sentence to the first paragraph of the forum freeroll section to address both questions.

Private Tournaments

Just Kidding. But it's an often asked question: "What's the password for the such'n'such tournament?" And the answer may surprise you: We don't know. Private tournaments are just that: private. Organizations put them together so that members of their organization can play and they typically provide the password only to their members. You can rest assured that if you are part of an organization that is having a private tournament, you probably already have the password. If not, they may not like you very much.

Forum Freerolls

About once a month, for the last three months anyway, there has been a freeroll for members of this forum that shows up in the Private tournament section of FTP. Nobody knows in advance when the next one will be or what the prizes will be for it. Typically an admin announces the tournament on here one day in advance, usually in a somewhat random thread, and posts the password there. The regular forum readers usually see the password in the course of reading through that day's posts. The casual reader (or random person coming to the forum just for the freeroll), however, has to search for it.

When this happens you will not receive help. Nobody will tell you what the password is. This isn't to be mean or spiteful -- the freeroll is open to all. The point is that the freeroll exists to help build the forum community. The more time you spend here, the more likely it is that you will see the password when it is posted or be able to find it quickly. The less time you spend here, the more effort you will likely have to expend. Yes, the regulars like that. No, we didn't make the rules.

The people who are giving you something for nothing did, so please respect those rules and don't ask for the password. The simple truth of the matter is that it would be much easier to find if 50 people didn't create new posts asking for it. Once that happens, you have 50 extra posts to sift through when you search and that doesn't help anybody, including you.

"Something for nothing - Nonsense!"

This is a phrase I have found all too many times. To be sure hosts of tournament freerolls or prizes can stipulate whatever manner they wish to distribute passwords. It is both juvenile and silly to suggest that "hiding" a password is anything other than one of many mechanisms for generating traffic on the site.

Think for a second - what business would purposely create a product and then purposely inhibit usage? The answer is none or one trying to fail. This idea that members of a site are at the disposal of the site administrator shows a basic lack of understanding of how the membership process works and what I consider a simpleminded, fascist minded member found all too often who promotes the idea that the members of the site reciprocate no value to the site. Good members do provide value and in return site/ forum operators provide perks for that value. A vital participating, growing membership list is the coin of the realm in any membership entity. Any membership organization that does not provide value to it's members will find itself either devoid of members or a ready source of members for a competing site.

I really wish more players would understand the reciprocal nature of this relationship as opposed to the few who apparently think that members have no value and frequently post that sentiment. The more I see this "idea", most often NOT posted by principals of the site who have typically have higher business intelligence to know better, I just may start my own forum.

Perhaps your time, participation and recruiting other players to join is "nothing" but mine are not.

Jon Holt/Merlin333

p.s.for the record - I have no problem finding the password. My time and affinity for the sponsoring site & competition dictate whether I play or not. I just think its the mark of a sycophant to suggest their own love-it-or-leave-it motivation for a site they are not a principal of and apparently have no business knowledge of the forces at work.

I would think to that at the very least you would note that these type of posts exponentially increase the requests for password!!!

I can now say without a doubt that there are azzholes everywhere. I have been on this site looking for a f**kin password for 4 hours last nite and almost 2 hours today. It is more of a time killer and also a membership deterent. There has always been little special groups in the world. like the nazi party, reds, communist and so on. Get a clue if it was truely a private tournament you would not put the little headgame which is this site on ofr people to easte their time.

I've no idea who Kim is, but I see her tournament is popular. I'm sure Kim has made the password freely available to those who know her. As you don't know the password, I assume you don't know Kim either.

Do you sulk like this if people you don't know don't invite you to their weddings, birthdays, office parties etc.?
