In last nights freeroll horse tournament it was the final table and down to four people when i got the luckiest hand of my life, playing stud hi/lo i was dealt four 4s in 4 cards. I would also like to mention this was the BIGGEST pot in the whole tournament as their is only 2,700,000 chips in the tourney and i won 1,166,000 in this pot. I later went on to win the tourney and promptly lose all of the money except for $1 which i plan to keep in my account so i never go broke .

From Perrys Pro Lesson:
For those of you who are unfamiliar with seven-card stud, there are some betting quirks in the game that you should understand. During the opening round of betting (also called "third street"), the player with the lowest up card is forced to act first. There are two choices: Bet the "bring-in" amount (which is usually one-third of the full bet) or "complete" the bet (make it a full bet). If the player chooses to bet the bring-in amount, another player has the option of completing the bet. Note that this is not considered a raise, because it is only increasing the initial bet to one full bet. This means there is still a bet and three remaining raises allowed during the opening round.
You should almost never bring in for a completion in Stud Hi, except in very rare tournament situations. There are a number of reasons for this, including the need to conceal the strength of your hand and the desire to keep your options open later in the round.
Me:
It wasnt stud Hi it was Hi/Lo, It was in tournement play, The players in the tourney were not very good and i wanted it to appear as if i was drawing to a good low therefore making the player with the high attempt to raise me out while i get more and more value out of my nearly unbeatable high.
I would really like to know perry's opinion on my play ! |

You definitely do not want to complete in that situation. The lesson applies to stud hi/lo and razz as well. The rare tourney situation is when you are your remaining opponent(s) are extremely shortstacked. If you are so short that you basically are pot committed, then you want to try to limit the people drawing against you, or at least get full odds from people looking to knock you out (otherwise, they may limp then fold on a later street once they are clearly behind). If your opponents are really short, you may wish to put them to the test right off and not let them get away from the hand. Both of these assume your hand is playable.
BTW, the link to the lesson needs to be updated. It is now:
