|
|
Why is it that on fifth street that I see it so often that people will call a bet with TWO FREAKING FACE CARDS SHOWING when the bettor is showing low cards only? Why do they persist upon chasing with a hand that cannot possibly be any good unless they hit two perfect cards and the bettor hits nothing but crap?
Let me give you an example....
This happened to me not that long ago on FTP (don't even remember the limits of the tourney at the time)....
Me: (4-6) 2
Opponent: (?-?) 5
I had raised and he had called from last position (along with two others)....
Me: (4-6) 2-A
Opponent: (?-?) 5-Q
I bet and he was the only caller
Me: (4-6) 2-A-7
Opponent: (?-?) 5-Q-J
I bet and he called again.
Now this is where I get a little excited and confused. I'm excited as its pretty clear that he is losing very badly. I'm confused because I honestly don't know what he is thinking about.
However, I see this all the time.....a player is catching low and his opponent has two bricks and yet they still play. Unfrotunately, I'd like to say that the low cards often win but the high cards (Razz people) seem to take FAR more than their far share of pots either through outdrawing or just plain guessing their hand is good...
My questions are.....Am I missing something? Is this proper strategy in any way?
Also, if you have done this, I would like to know why you have done this and how often you have won the pot you were playing in?
Oh, in case you were wondering....
Sixth street:
Me: (4-6) 2-A-7-2
Opponent: (?-?) 5-Q-J-2
He bets, I raise, and he calls.
Me: (4-6) 2-A-7-2 (K)
Opponent: (?-?) 5-Q-J-6 (?)
He bets, I raise (I believe my hand is best as I cannot possibly believe he has made a six), he reraises setting me all-n)
Opponent shows: (3-4) 5-Q-J-6 (A) for 6-5-4-3-A
I muck (he never knew): (4-6) 2-A-7-2 (K) for 7-6-4-2-A
I literally got sick afterwards.... |

| Hah. In the razz MTT a few nights ago I won a pot with a full house on 5th. He was betting the whole way, and i was showing a pair of 4s. Then he hits a 7 and stops betting - clearly he paired. I bet, he folded, I showed, he swore. Good times... |

Yeah, but in your case, he thought his hand was bad and you were bluffing.
In my example, I had the goods and he had garbage. But the hand was just an example of what I wanted to discuss.

| Man, you'll win so much more in the long run. He obviously stayed in it for a reason, so you knew he had 2 almost perfect cards in the hole. I would have just called on the end not knowing what was going on. |

| I know the situations aren't the same - the guy in your case was a moron. However, I wanted to share my great hand with someone. |

If these people never sucked out on you, they wouldn't play. Congratulate them on their good luck and make them feel welcome.
A good rant does make you feel better every now and then though, doesn't it? I just direct mine at the nearby punchbag instead of at my keyboard. |
