| I'm just wondering what types of books some of you have read that have helped your game significantly. I've read Caro's book of Tells and some of that stuff is gold and some of it seems outdated or doesnt work. I heard some of Hellmuth's stuff is good. Im interested in hearing your replies and what you would suggest. |

If you're a beginning player, Phil's book, 'Play Poker Like the Pros' is great. He teaches a conservative style, which is good for beginners.
It features tips and advice from other players, and covers all the games FTP offers. There's even a nice little section on Razz.
You can find it here,

If you just want to learn holdem, you can buy a smaller, pocket sized book, entitled 'Texas Holdem', which is basically the limit holdem, NLHE, and tournament chapters of Play Poker Like the Pros. |

Depends on where you are at and what you need to learn.
At the 101 level I like Winning Low Limit Holdem by Lee Jones. If you like NL it will help, but won't be perfect. Phil Gorden's Poker the Real Deal is also a reasonable beginners book.
Moving up to the 201 level you have Small Stakes Holdem by Miller, Sklansky, and ......another person who's name I really need to learn.
At still higher levels you have Theory of Poker by Sklansky, Super System II, Harrington on Holdem, and some others. |

I am primarily a NL cash game and tourney player.
So i've read Dan Harrington on hold'em, David Sklanksy Tournament hold'em for advanced players, Lee Jones low limit, i've also watched several videos, which i think helped the least, because they are biased towards the newbies. I've watched: Phil Helmuth's Million Dollar Secrets, 2 of Howard lederer's videos.
Dan Harrington's book helped me the most, i cant wait to get vol2. If you play tourneys or NL cash games, get this book. |
