I was dealt trip fours to start the hand. I didn't complete because I wanted to disguise the strength of the hand. If someone did complete, I was going to raise and try to build a big pot. Regarding my opponent in this hand: we were in the third round of a Horse SNG and I didn't have much of a read on him. I think he played two hands of LHE and two hands of O8. This was the very 1st hand of Stud played.

Full Tilt Poker Game #1219817464: $5 + $0.50 Sit & Go (8429403), Table 1 - 60/120 Ante 10 - Limit Seven Card Stud - 15:18:38 ET - 2006/11/09
Seat 1: chrisorpatti (1,910)
Seat 2: ddonofrio (2,300)
Seat 3: lakerfanatic (1,395)
Seat 4: hugebenny (1,600)
Seat 5: morethenready (1,240)
Seat 6: ezpath3 (1,285)
Seat 7: clussman (1,525)
Seat 8: baknup (745)
*** 3RD STREET ***
Dealt to chrisorpatti [7c]
Dealt to ddonofrio [9s]
Dealt to lakerfanatic [Ks]
Dealt to hugebenny [Qd]
Dealt to morethenready [2h]
Dealt to ezpath3 [Tc]
Dealt to clussman [4d 4h] [4c]
Dealt to baknup [Ad]
morethenready is low with [2h]
morethenready brings in for 20
ezpath3 folds
clussman calls 20
baknup calls 20
chrisorpatti folds
ddonofrio folds
lakerfanatic folds
hugebenny calls 20
*** 4TH STREET ***
Dealt to hugebenny [Qd] [Qh]
Dealt to morethenready [2h] [3s]
Dealt to clussman [4d 4h 4c] [5d]
Dealt to baknup [Ad] [8s]

My opponent (hugebenny) paired his queen. There is a chance he has a higher set than me but not enough of one that I'm too worried about it. Should I be worried?

hugebenny bets 120
morethenready folds
clussman raises to 240
baknup folds
hugebenny raises to 360
clussman raises to 480
hugebenny calls 120

He capped the betting with me. Should I be worried now? Not completing on 3rd street disguises the strength of my hand with the hopes that someone will overplay top pair or two pair. So this is exactly what I wanted to have happen.

*** 5TH STREET ***
Dealt to hugebenny [Qd Qh] [3h]
Dealt to clussman [4d 4h 4c 5d] [9d]
hugebenny bets 120
clussman raises to 240
hugebenny raises to 360
clussman raises to 480
hugebenny calls 120

I don't think his hand improved here but he bet it out again. Thoughts?

*** 6TH STREET ***
Dealt to hugebenny [Qd Qh 3h] [6h]
Dealt to clussman [4d 4h 4c 5d 9d] [7d]
hugebenny bets 120
clussman raises to 240
hugebenny raises to 360
clussman raises to 480
hugebenny calls 120

I've added a flush draw to my hand and I'm not worried about his three hearts because he wouldn't have capped his bets on a flush draw. Of course he's probably thinking the same thing about my hand.

*** 7TH STREET ***
Dealt to clussman [4d 4h 4c 5d 9d 7d] [9h]
hugebenny bets 120
clussman calls 55, and is all in
Uncalled bet of 65 returned to hugebenny

I've made my boat! No need to bet it out though -- all my chips are already in the pot. Did I play this hand correctly or did I overplay it?

I probably would have completed on third. I usually don't like to slow play anything in stud except rolled up nines or above unless the game is shorthanded, then I will sometimes slowplay lower trips and high pairs. I like your play on 4th, trying to find out where you are. However, he has represented strength the entire time by 5th and 6th, where he is still capping. I probably would have just called him down after his 3 bet on 5th street. However, there is still a very good chance you have the best hand on 7th since you boated.

You're probably the only response I'm gonna get. He made a higher boat on the river and I was the first person out of the SNG. I feel like I overplayed it just because I didn't have any kind of read on my opponent yet. But I tend to not maximize value in my hands in limit games. Still looking for that balance...

No you didn't overplay it, but the other guy has clearly represented strength as well. From his betting on 4th and 5th, I would guess he has a pair in the hole, so queens and maybe 7s or 8s. I would also have completed the bet to start with, no opponent is going to give you credit for a set on 3rd, so you don't have much to disguise.

looking at the hand there was no way to assume your opponent had trip Q's over your trip 4's on 5th and 6th, but more was looking at a hand like two pair. he didn't complete the bet when he was last to act on 3rd. most players would have completed that bet with split Q's after no completions to them, so i think he would probably have a wired pair. i believe you may wanted to have slowed down on 5th and 6th, but the way i would have played the hand, i don't think he had a higher boat until possibly 7th. most likely up until then i think you were lookin at two pair and your set would have held up if he didn't hit. just my thoughts.
