You need to learn to get away from the hand if the flop is bad for you.

Winning the most pots isn't important--winning the most money is. Let's say that you and all opponents go to the river no matter what..let's just look at the preflop bets:

EV with 4 opponents = .4 * 4 - .6 * 1 = 1.6 - .6 = +1 betting unit per bet you place in the pot preflop.

EV heads up = .8 * 1 - .2 * 1 = +.6 betting units per bet you place preflop.

Since 1.0 > .6 you should prefer four callers to one.
