Full Tilt 5/10, so no one's an idiot

C [Js] brings in... folds
D [6d] folds
E [6c] folds
garamond10pt [2h 9c] [5h] completes
F [As] calls
A [8s] folds
B [8d] calls

4th: (~5SB)
B: 83
gara: [29]5A
F: A6

I bet, they call.

5th: (~4BB)
B: 833
gara: [29]5AA
F: A6J

checks to me, I bet, they call

6th (~7BB)
B: 8335
Gara: [29]5AA3
F: A6J7
checks to me, I ???

I'm really not sure what the right move is. In the actual hand, I checked, but I think it's really close to a bet.

If they both caught good, I'm still 20-25% to win the hand, which isn't terrible. Since I only see one 5 and no 7's, it's really possible one paired 6th, and I can probably get him to fold for a bet. The problem is making the 2pair fold pretty much only helps the hand that's in the lead, so if I'm behind, I don't help my pot equity much by making him fold. If I'm behind, betting costs me about a third to a half of a bet.

Where I really help myself is if I'm ahead of both hands. If F has something like a 9 in the hole and B made 2 pair, I raise my pot equity by 15% or so by making the 2 pair fold, plus the fact that I'm betting when I'm ahead. I gain a little more than a bet when this happens.

On the off chance they both made two pair, it's disastrous if I let one of them outdraw me. I gain about 3 bets when they both fold.

So are the times when I'm ahead enough to make betting worthwhile?

(on a side note, what's my line on 7th?)

take the free card , if u only have a made 9 check on the end and call. If u get the six or a seven bet it. If u have an 8 check and call as one of your opponents may already have the seven. There is enough money for the check and call on the end. May not be the best decision to start with a nine for the first three cards, as u are chasing the more conservative players from the start. I to am not wild about starting with the 9. Now look what you have got yourself into??

I say bet! There is a chance that your hand is best right now and if it is not than there is room for improvement. If you are beat than both your opponets are obviously scared of your hand since they both checked. This makes it very doubtful that they will bet into you on the river as they once again will have to act first. If you miss the river THEN check if you hit bingo on the river you pick up even more. The important thing here is if all else fails you still can improve and you can't afford to allow a free card to someone who might possibly fold!

This is a clear bet in my book!!
Although a check doesn't sound so bad either?? Very Happy

Oh you gotta love Razz!!

The play on 3rd is a no-brainer. There's a HUGE difference between calling with a 9 and raising with a 9.

Agreed, but it's a dangerous raise for two reasons:

1. The cards behind you are moderately dangerous (I would be much more inclined to complete if there was only one card eight or lower still to act)

2. Many of the cards you need are gone, and all your pair cards are live.

I think a bet is pretty much mandatory, even though there's a small chance that both players have outdrawn you. However, it's quite likely that at least one of them has paired, given the upcards (most likely Player B). If one of them has a smooth draw you are the favourite with one card to come and should bet for value.

Really, the only time I wouldn't bet is if I knew for a fact that both my opponents had smooth draws. Then I'd be in dire straits, and would consider folding to a bet if I didn't improve on the river.

in any poker game, it is often better to bet than check (even if you need a free card to improve your hand)... betting puts a little doubt in your opponents' minds about their hands b/c you have a 9 showing, which means you have to have something strong in their minds... if you check, you lose control of the pot when you really could have taken control of that pot and possibly bet out the players on the next card...
