IIRC, you're a Linux user. I know Gentoo has older versions in Portage. In fact, I masked off the 2.0 branch until more plugins get updated.
I would guess that you should be able to find older packages in your distribution's repositories. Most distros have a package manager that allows you to select a specific version of an application.
Otherwise, try here:

Ever since Boomer's initial post, I have been checking for some hint of a version that works on FF2.0 (which I installed just days before the original post).
Today, I finally found a version or instructions on getting this to work under FF2.0!!
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/831
This isn't a stand alone extension like the original, but a script that runs under the greasemonkey extension (the original user hide extension was a compiled greasemonkey script). So, you first need to install greasemonkey then you are free to install scripts that use this extension (the user hide script being one of them). Since I wasn't really sure what I was doing, I clicked the link in the upper right that said 'click here to find out how'.
You end up with an [ x ] by each poster's name, you can click that and it will add the user to the ignore list. Then, it basically hides that user's post (you still see their name in the flow of the thread). If someone quotes a hidden user, their post will show up quoted, but still hidden.
Anyway, just thought I'd say THANKS to IABoomer for pointing this out in the first place, and let those of you that use FF2.0 know that it is possible to get it working.
Edit: clarification on the effects of a hidden user being quoted.

I'd guess what happened is you have a new install of Firefox and it doesn't have cookies set from your bank. So, to verify it's you, they asked you the security questions.
Also, the standalone version doesn't work right with 2.0. However, if you see smokindog's post, you'll see there's a way to get it working. You just can't use the standalone script and have to install the Greasemonkey extension. |

Install the Greasemonkey extension from here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748
Restart your browser, then following smokingdog's link to the userscript here:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/831
Up in the top right corner, there's a link to install that script.
Once that's done, you're set. You should see a [X] next to each poster's name on the forum. Click the X and you'll ignore that poster. |

It's been a long time coming, so I finally upgraded to FF2.0 at home.
I see how you could run into a problem. When I tried this on another computer, the script just installed fine by itself. This one did something a little odd.
I got this window giving me the option to install:
However, when I clicked the Install button, nothing happened.
To get the script installed, I had to go to Tools -> Greasemonkey -> Install User Script as shown here:
Then, much to my disappointment, this didn't work either. Greasemonkey showed it as installed, but like you, I see no [X] next to a user's name.
Searching for a resolution to that problem led me here:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=1350062#1350062
and eventually to a working script located here:
http://s93731204.onlinehome.us/firefox/greasemonkey/phpbb.ignore.user.js
Try installing this one and see if it works. It did for me. |
