Everyone seems to have a project these days, and I'm going to be off work for the next 6 months so I thought I would invent one. I've been playing REALLY badly for the past couple of weeks and haven't caught too many cards either. So time for some restraint and a goal to work towards.

I have $21 in my account. $11 for recreational play, and $10 for a project. So I started yesterday playing 0.05/0.10 Limit Hold Em ring games. I'm trying to only play HU cause I think I can outplay one person a lot easier than 9 other people. I'm sticking to HU limit as 1) it's harder to go broke, 2) Easier to tell if I'm out of depth against any opponent.

So anyway, I now have $22 for the project and I've moved up to a mixture of .10/.20 and when I hit $40 I'm goin to move up to $.25/.50.
Hopefully I can then make it to $100 and I move to .50/$1

Then I hit my problem. How long before I can move to 1/2 and 2/4? Anyone who plays these limits, what is the variance like? I'm expecting to lose $50 or so through adjusting to much better players, so what would be a good amount to have squirreled away before attemting $1/2 I was thinking $350, but should I leave it a bit longer. My target is $1000, hopefully patience will last that long.

I think I dropped around $200 when I took my first shot at $1/$2 a few weeks ago playing mostly 6-max with a few full tables mixed in. If my limit game hadn't been as rusty as it was, I probably could've avoided about $50 of that though. Playing HU $1/$2 with $350 is just asking to go broke in my opinion. I've already lost count of the times I've had a $50+ swing over 100 hands or so, and that's at 6-max tables with poor opponents. Variance will probably be a lot higher HU unless you're extremely selective when choosing opponents.

Stars doesnt have HU tables either, but their software always adds new tables at all limits with nobody playing, so I sit at one and wait for opponents, or join tables with one man. Where there's a will, theres a way
