something that i've found to be very effective (not 100% though) is to say something like, "its good to know you play well" which instantly puts the focus on the heckler's play who in turn becomes self-concious about every decision for the next few hands, and in fact will often quit. This is good in the long run because you lose the players that hassle people about bad plays.

Yeah, don't do that... If someone starts with you, by all means, take it to them. But to start in on someone when they're obviously an idiot, is what's really retarded, and I'm afraid shows a lack of table maturity...

Yeah, if you were just some random guy sitting at a table, I would think it was immature... But since I know you from the forum, I'd realize you were just being you! Very Happy

I feel somehow when events like these occur that I have not only let myself down, but you as well junk. For what its worth, I apologize (only because I think somehow this comment in that hand will spark a chain of hateful events that ends up getting you drafted and a bullet in the rear--although the purple heart looks good on you).

Deadmoney,

You are forgiven this time...

Your "you guys are the zits of online poker" was a classic at the TLK/Ivy table...

I love yelling at bad players. The therapeutic effects far outweigh any skill increase from the fish (not that I think that even happens). Hell, sometimes I turn my chat off and keep yelling at them. It's awesome. If my chat were banned, I'd still type stuff into the chat box and hit Enter.

I expect to win every time I play, and poker is a game unlike almost any other, where you can lose even if the skill gap is extremely large. That calls for some yelling!

my roommate does that too and he's averaging $55/hr nowadays. I think there is a marginal difference that hinders your profits slightly by berrating opponents for bad play. These setbacks are offset slightly anytime you can get an opponent to tilt off chips, but in my experience you scare out "deadmoney" in the pots more often than you rake them.

Finally got around to watching one of the ipod promos from Live at the Bike.

Some local business man was sitting down to the 20/40 nl game while trying to cut a deal on his cell phone. He threw some chips in the pot (calling a raise) while talking, clearly unaware of the action, then got his hand folded and taken off the table by the floor person until he finished his call.

There was some discussion as to whether business guy even knew what was going on and a couple of players, including the one who actually won the pot, told the dealer to give business guy his chips back. The commentators commented that this was a good idea 'cause business guy was a known donk and none of the good players wanted him upset.

The next two hands after he gets back he proceeds to call down with crap. The guys who told the dealer to give back the chips won more in those pots than the chips that were given back. And business guy was smiling 'cause he was "playin' poker" and having a good old time.

Happy donks are ATMs.

Just thought it seemed like a good time to reiterate this point.

...You must remember these are your customers and like a Casino, you don't see blackjack dealers or floormen berating someone who is running hot and beating the house out of a small amount of money (in comparison to the casino's bankroll). In fact, they try to get those winners comped, free room, and sitting there as long as possible--a true winning decision.

The best thing about poker is that short term results will reinforce bad habits for your opponents and there are many things you can do including saying "nh" when they hit a set on the river to grease those wheels. You should be working like a magician in misdirection.

Was a good post money, I am guilty of berating players, if they start playing wild....I should stop, and will. your points are well taken. Thank you for posting sir.
