I went and stayed with a friend for a few weeks and had Poker as my only source of income. I payed him 1/2 months rent for the time I was up there, i had money for other entertainment / food and actually had to pay my phone bill and gym membership during that time. I started with $200 and after all bills payed and some lesiure activities I had over $1200 profit in two weeks.
So I found out that I could survive off of poker alone. Then I got stupid / unlucky. I lost $800 in four hands, I had only bought in for $170 that day but still sucked. Then I had a bad night at Omaha after winning for two hours, I lost boat over boat then it just went down hill and I lost $400. Nothing held up anymore, three times I had the wheel and got quartered. So rough times. But that's poker. If the long shot didn't win every now and then we wouldn't play.
Just thought I'd share my little experiment with the forum. I plan on saving up enough money to live off of for 6 months plus a few thousand to play poker with and see how it treats me. I'll be "officially" playing poker as a job for the first 6 months or so next year. I'll definitely keep posting and replying here as much as possible though. |

| What limits were you playing? And how many hours a day/week did you clock up? |

50 hrs of limit hold 'em. With 3 nights a week of 200max buy in 3/5 NL. I mixed in some low limit Omaha and a spread HORSE game. I broke even in the 10/20 limit game. I made more money in a 2-6 spread limit game sadly then in the 10/20. I also played a few tournies and took 1st twice out of 6 tournies. So I was up in those as well.
EDIT: It was 50 hrs total. So 25 hrs a week. |

| That seems pretty do-able, i mean 25hrs a week at those limits isn't a lot to ask to make a living, if you're a good player. |

Don't worry. I'm pretty much amazing. I mean that in the most modest of egotistical ways. Even in the 10/20 game the only big pots I lost I got out drawn on by players that were low limit level players chasing weird draws. |

I find it hard to believe that the above post proves you can make a living as a poker professional. I disagree with your comment I bolded. I'm not trying to be hard on you, just realistic. The first thing I notice is that for your $1200 profit, your sample size is two weeks. This is far too small. Even if you have been a "winning" player in the past, it's a different ballgame using the game as your source of income and two weeks is not long enough to find out if you can hack it. The period where you lost will always be there too, so enter these waters with extreme caution.
I don't know as much about Omaha, but from what I understand boat over boat isn't that uncommon. Other than that, stay within your BR and good luck Slick. Keep us posted. |

| I agree with Domer... 1200 bucks in 2 weeks means nothing. I certainly don't want to stomp on your dream though, slick, and I wish you and all the other hopefuls around here the best of luck. I'd just hate to see you get too excited about the possibilities if this is all you're going on. It's a great run, that's for sure, and certainly something to be proud of... But the rest of your life is a long time, and it's hard to have those results consistantly. Can't wait to hear how you do next year. Please keep us posted. |

Those are from sng's and notice the avg stake...$4. I haven't figured out how to beat the $4 sngs online when I push in with the nuts and get out drawn. It says total profit -$32 when I've only ever deposited $80 on here one time and had been staked $100 one time. Both times I worked it up pretty high. There are posts that show the MTT wins, not to mention the cash game wins that I have as well. So -$32 in very low sng's and plus over $1000 everywhere else.
I appreciate the honesty and well wishes from domer and junkbutton and all the others. I've been a winning player at the live limits I play ever since I turned 21. The two week sample was just living off of poker. I did learn a lot about my game during those two weeks. That's why I said I was going to save up enough to live off of, then have extra for poker. So around $20,000 put away with about $6,000 of it commit just to poker. I'm not going to take my next pay check and just jump right in. The two week sample had ups and downs. It was a decent run but not all days were winning days. Bad beats happen. But I'm sure it'll work out and I'll keep everyone updated. |

no worries. I know my SNG profit is right around there because I played three $50 sng's and bubbled out of all of them. So that's why I have - ROI. The play is just as bad at the $50 tables as it is the $5. I also don't know if it counts tokens because I played in the $8.70 token tournies and never once took the cash. So I don't know how that counts.

Thanks. I learned that i can play for roughly 10 hours live before I start to lose my head and do something stupid, like call a reraise to $90 with K9 just because I'm on the button and the player had sucked out on my 4 times in the last 15 hands. |
