There was a player who failed to show up, so his stack was being blinded off and on my final hand the dealer failed to deal the absent player in. The dealer realized his error and then asked the table what they wanted to do. Two players limped in and two more folded when it got to me. I assumed that since the players ahead of me acted that it was no longer up for debate and found AA. Happily I pushed my short stack all in and got one caller who rivered a gutshot straight after I caught my third A on the turn Confused (must have been rigged)...

Anyway, my question is should the dealer really have asked the tables opinion on the matter or should he just have called all the cards back? I'd just like to know for the future if I ever see that situation again. Thanks!

My opinion is that was a little too "informal" on the dealer's part.
If no betting had yet occured, the dealer should have either declared a mis-deal or not. Rules on voided hands, mis-deals ect in a B & M should be clear, & decided by the "house", not left up to the players ... What does asking the table really accomplish ... What if 3 players really wanted to play, 2 didn't care, & 2 didn't want to .... The dealer would have made some players unhappy or even mad at each other, , & would still have to make the decision anyway ...

I agree. In general, this should be declared a misdeal, but in any case, it's not up to the table to decide.

same thing happened to me, a player was missed. I was at the final table with mid-low chip stack and got AA. But of course it was a voided hand. However i did go on to finish fourth on that tournie.
