“Gambling is a serious addiction that undermines the family, dashes dreams, and frays the fabric of society. Congress has grappled with this issue for 10 years, and during that time we’ve watched this shadow industry explode. For me as majority leader, the bottom line is simple: Internet gambling is illegal. Although we can’t monitor every online gambler or regulate offshore gambling, we can police the financial institutions that disregard our laws.”

- Bill Frist, Republican, Tennessee

The republicans have been fighting this for ten years, which would mean the terrorist aspect of this bill is just a lie since 9-11 happened five years ago. Republicans want to control our lives and for this will never get my vote again.

we also have the ability to play poker in our bathrooms while wearing just simple undergardments, such as your standard simple white cotton panties. Republicans and Americans alike will not stand for this...Praise me jesus.

This guy is not talking to us or any other thinking person. He's talking to the emotions of the ultra right wing conservatives where gets his votes. This is just what they love to hear.

“Gambling is a serious addiction that undermines the family, dashes dreams, and frays the fabric of society".

Guess that doesn't include gambling in casinos which generates revenue for the government. That type is the good kind. Internet gambling is "illegal" because there is no money to line their pockets.

i live in TN and until just recently we didnt have the powerball jackpot in this state. i knew of so many people who would drive all the way to kentucky just to buy powerball tickets. the odds of winning the powerball are about 140 million to one and still they drove hours and blew paychecks on powerball tickets. if this isnt a serious addiction nothing is so ban the powerball. when thousands of people drive out of state to play online poker then tell me its a serious addiction. until then leave it alone

I dont understand the argument of abortion vs online gambling...In fact I believe they are similar (in terms of a persons choice). Like I believe women should have the right to choose, I believe the individual has the right to choose. Not many bad addictions in life can actually have a profitbable effect, as can poker. I believe its my choice to choose whether or not I have an addiction. Please dont use that ignorant comparision in the future, its actuall condradicting as the Republican party tries to play god and control everyones lifes.

All republicans aren't bad just as all democrats aren't good, there just happens to be more good dems than rep as far as I've experienced (today). For example, I don't have a problem with most of John McCain's stances and I generally think he is a good politician, correct me if I'm wrong. But it -was- all democrats that opposed adding this non-related portion to the port security bill (as opposed to adding legislation to help out our ailing mass transit system) and it -was- republicans that added it in a shadowy way.

Yup, those who oil investors like the Bush Sr., who convinced their leader/son to overtake a country for an increase in their stock shares are surely ecstatic.

I don't think John McCain is a true republican even though he's registered as one. A lot of his views are moderate. He also seems to be a decent human being unlike the Bush cronies.
