I think a lot of Republicans drank the Kool-Aid with 9/11 and the war in Iraq, and actually allowed their ideologies to change along with the party. Most Republicans I know are just 100% Republican, whether the actual politicians stand for less government or more government, personal freedoms or curbing those freedoms.

I like this post by Sklansky regarding libertarian positions on internet gambling.

And because republicans do away with social programs and fed aid in order to cut taxes on the top 1%, we have to increase local and state taxes to keep up which in effect puts a higher effective tax rate on the middle class. Its invisible and in the name of "lowering" taxes. How's your local property taxes the last 5 years, you tell me, it sucks here in MN. And i'll ask this next question, what is a good tax rate? zero? no public schools / roads / police / military etc?

Anyway, just ignore me, i'm all riled up because I have nothing to do with my time now that I cashed out. I'm really irritable at the loss of income.

Another brilliant comment from our republican leaders.

U.S. Representative Spencer Bachus (R, AL) said, "Addicted to gambling, just like addicted to drugs. So there is a correlation between drug dealers and gambling sites."

HUH?

I'm not as sure that it's a Republican vs. Democrat thing as it is a 430+ members of the Congress who have no clue about poker vs. the rest of the nation thing.

Not all Republican's supported the bill, and not all Dem's voted against it. Yes, the majority of those who voted against it were Dem's, but it wasn't that many of them.

I find it rather disgusting that so many people (here and elsewhere) auto-attach anything they don't like to Bush faster than a fish auto-raises UTG with rockets. Yes, I vote mainly Republican (NOT straight ticket; I do my homework, unlike most hardcore Reps or Dems), and no, I don't drool over every word Bush says, and no, I don't automatically dismiss any Dem statement as Bush-bashing (although a lot of it can be interpreted that way). But anyone who thinks Bush is a "far-right extremist" is obviously dumb. There are those way more to the right of Bush.

Anyways, I wish you auto-dems would get your panties out of your ass and quit all the **** about one person. Legitimate concerns I have no problem with.

And someone else above said it perfectly: too many damn young people don't have a clue about politics. They just regurgitate what they hear from their parents, or on TV. And yes, that goes for Dems and Reps equally.

Do your homework people. Quit being so damn committed to one party/committed against another.

FOCUS PEOPLE: the issue is NOT GETTING ONLINE POKER BANNED.

(By the way, Foley is a jerk who should be dropped into Syria dressed as a woman. And all the talk about Hasert is one thing; but what about the dem blogger's who released the dirt on Foley at a convenient time? Seems they might have been more concerned about the political advantage of a timely info leak, rather than the safety of the kids Foley was tryin' to get jiggy with. For shame, all involved!)

and hey chappa i never voted before but didnt think i had to cause i thought the republicans wer takin care of business, but obiously they are taking care of a few businesses, and not the people, and are to worried about overseas domination, and oil investing. they are a joke and yes bush is there prime example so whenever we talk about trashy garbage republicans well just use bush as our slang word, actually I think that using the B word should get us banned from here.

I'm not saying there aren't legit complaints against Bush. I'm saying it gets a little old when anything that happens it pinned on the man. He is NOT the best pres ever, by far. But he is also not evil incarnate, as many dem leaders want you to believe (ex: Al Gore's rant about "He BETRAYED our country!" Please, Al, you're better than that, playing down to the worst common denominator for political grandstanding).

And for the record, Clinton had his good points as well as bad.

God forbid someone not be staright rep/straight dem.

Wow...I guess we should not ban kids (and adults) from buying online perscripton drugs or hiring hookers through escort services online. But lets worry about banning poker. Our priorities as a country are a joke. Is this still the United States?

They're not banning poker. They're trying to ban ONLINE POKER. It's going to save a lot of people a lot of money. I can't wait till all these "pros" online have to step into real casinos and play real live players where cards aren't generated "randomly". Or maybe even have to start working and become a contributing member of society. Online Poker has ruined many people's lives, and I hate the republican party, but I hope they keep hammering on these sites. F U CK FTP

The way I look at it that the government (republicans) arent getting their cut of the money. You know that everytime they outlaw or regulate something there is a committee formed or an agency to regulate or investagate people participating in online poker, playing or administrating. They end up creating all these new jobs and spending money that could be spent on other worth while things. And who gets the jobs, friends or associates that lobby against online gambling. This whole thing is a farce, someone wants to make money or will make money by banning online gaming.
Its a shame watching all the poker sites that are shutting dwn all US accts. Im so glad to see FTP taking a stand as many other sites should have but they didnt. I dont know whats going to be the outcome of this so called bill, hopefully it will be reversed.
I better stop because I get really worked up when it comes to BUSH and his crew.ARNOLD is another one. They dont care about the cost of gas,car or medical ins.,persriptions or ssi,(retirement)wny??? because the government covers it all for them. There're really never personally envolved or living in the situation, as it was in passing that bill. thank you. Bug123

Most of us drink alcohol responsibly anyways.. Addcitions come in many forms.. Some of us are addicted to junk food, lets ban that too.. Some of us are addcited to sex why not ban that.. oh yeah and how about television.. hell most of us watch at least 6 hours a day... lets ban televesion too!!!!! Poker can either be played responsibly or not but to say that we are all adicted to it is absurd.. I know for a fact some spend more money on Mcdonalds than on poker.. LEts BAN McDonalds... people are seriously addicted to BIG MACS and by the looks of it I am sure Bill Frist is ..
