This weekend Republicans worked a back door deal to ban internet gambling. They included it with a bill that will add more security to our ports. Of course we want more security in our ports, so the bill passed overwhelmingly Now, we can't play poker or bet on sports because Republicans think it's evil. Why is this? Republicans and the relgious right want to control our lives. The American people should be able to decide what we do behind closed doors as long as we are not taking advantage of little children like Mr. Foley and the religious right do..

IT's time to start living free again! Vote for your local democrat in the upcoming elections. They listen to the middle class American more than the child molesting, religious right republicans do!

I think he might be refering to these two pieces (If he is not - I am):

Quote:
"...taking advantage of little children like Mr. Foley and the religious right do"

"...more than the child molesting, religious right republicans do!"

In the second, you say that every religious right Republican takes advantage of children.

In the first you are saying everyone on the religious right, Republican, Democrat, or Other, takes advantage of children.

Pretty strong accusations to make against millions of people.

I was reading this story on CNNMoney.com and there was something I found interesting.

Quote:
Congress unexpectedly approved a bill early on Saturday that would make it illegal for banks and credit-card companies to make payments to online gambling sites.

Isn't that the purpose of using Neteller and similar companies. I still think this may scare most if not all the sites from doing business here but there are still ways around it. It isn't horribly expensive to have a bank account overseas, you don't have to have a billion dollars in a cayman island account, there are cheaper ways. I really don't think its as big as everyone is making it out to be. I love online poker and it pays for all my fun (work pays the bills) but it won't be the end of the world and maybe people won't play like idiots at a B&M since you can see their faces.

And how many Democrats voted for the bill as well? And how many Democrats stood up on the floor of the House and Senate and denounced the addition of this amendment prior to the vote being taken? And how many Democrats spoke out in the media today about how wrong it is to tack this amendment on to a port security bill?

The answer appears to be zippo, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. And the Democrats have more than enough ethical problems of their own. They certainly don't have cleaner hands than the GOP does. Personally, I think this law will wind up being tough to enforce, and I wouldn't worry about it too much. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and I guess I'll have to find another hobby.

Drowsy you hit it on the head.... he can have his opinion but his opinion and his credibility are lost with generalizations such as that.

I figured he was smart enough to see his mistake and didnt needed it pointed out.

When this was voted on in the house 95% of Republicans voted to ban online gambling whereas 95% of democrats voted against the ban. Then it was voted on in the senate this weekend. Republicans knew this was a problem so Bill Frist, R, Tennessee, included the language in the popular port security bill. IF anyone had voted against this they would have been ridiculed by Republicans as port security is very important to us all in this day and age of terrorism. It would have looked like democrats would have not wanted to protect our ports and this strategy would have been used against democrats in the next election. People wake up, republicans are trying to control our lives. I am a registered republican and have had enough with my party.

Thats politics. They sneak in and attach BS to bills that are lock to pass. Its how it has been done since the start and it doesn't look to be changing any time soon. Just be thankful that we are allowed to speak out against it without any retaliation or oppression (sp?). I love this game, but I know my life will go on without it online. There are ways around everything and trust me, we will find a way around this.

I was a registered republican up until a few years ago when I changed my classification as independent. As far as this bill goes: What did you expect? Tacking iffy legislation into a bill that is a sure pass is the way a lot of not so popular language is passed. That was just business as usual. Until we get a legitimate third party or an independent movement of some kind to start wrestling some power from the two dominant parties of the day we are going to have to deal with things like this. For that matter even after a third party does get some power they well be just as corrupt as the ones we have now given time.

I modified your quote to make it a bit more accurate. Its what governments do.

(added because of a gogzy? post in similar thread)
P.S. That is the reason the 2nd admendment exists - they felt it was a safeguard.

"Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship."

Another quote from George Orwell for you, but I guess that doesnt support your 'argument'
