First of all, Strasse, your analysis of the game is wonderful. Nice job there. You gave a ton of great info there. I play stud a lot but it is good to reread some stuff like you posted to refresh myself of the basics.
The first book I read on stud hi was Roy West's book, which is a great starting point I feel. It is geared to the beginner but it has some solid stuff in it. The play he recommends is very tight which is good for anyone starting out. The best advice I think he gives and re-gives a lot in the book is: Live cards and big kickers. I write this down in front of me so I can see it when I play. Very basic but that is essentially very important. The concecsus seems to be that Chip's section in SS1 and Sklansky's book for advanced players are the 2 most liked books or sections on stud hi. (for stud8 I like Brunson's basic section in SS2)
I have yet to play live stud because it is very hard to find as stud game that is spread around here. 95% HE games.
Thanks Strasse |
