| I have really taken the advice given in this thread to heart and I am really making an effort to change speeds while I play. Today, I moved back down to .25/.50 limit and decided to make every effort to change speeds and play LAG and TAG. I must say that your right deadmoney, that by being super aggressive from the very get go you can push people beyond there comfort zone and they will start making bad decisions. I don't know how many times I was called down w/ A high or K high hands. The only problem I was having was knowing when to change gears and go back to TAG. I am pretty new to limit, so I am absorbing as much as your guys advice as I can. Is it me or does it seem that the Limit forum isnt as frantic as the other forums? |

| Sounds like a promising venture blkhwk67t. Any time you can force your opponents into a guessing game they will most likely make more mistakes than if you always played predictable ABC poker. Good luck tonight |

If tables change to the point where i'm needing more time for decisions, I will start closing tables keeping only the easiest pickings. I found for me it does no good to have 3 juicy tables and 1 difficult one where I begin to make mistakes to the point of losing profits had I just stuck with 2-3.
I have a problem letting go of a table when they take my money...I guess I figure if I stick to it I can grind back my losses...Maybe I should just be cutting my losses and trying to win them back at the easier tables...This is something that I have to work on.
The next time you see captain insano plop down at your current limit, you'll know how and why the other players will react to him/her and what it might mean for your decisions. You might even win in this experiment (don't expect too) good luck you'll need it |
I still have trouble dealing with the Captain Insano type guys, but I can usually combat their aggressiveness with turn checkraises with my good hands...Against these guys, I will usually check raise and cap on the turn(my version of the PEOPLES Elbow) with hands as weak as TPMK, as Captain Insano is usually playing weaker cards than I am. Many times they will give up without a showdown on the river...
My problem is that I do not catch these hands enough to take more of his money before he donks it all off to the rest of the table, and with the other players at the table doing the same thing to Captain Insano, it is hard to for me to bluff in these situations, as pretty much anyone else in the pot besides Captain Insano is going to have a hand that will hold up on the river against my bluff if the Captain Insano gives up.
For you wrestling fans out there, sorry at my feeble attempt at humor using the much revered Peoples Elbow... |

The bump is appreciated. I just started playing limit on a regular basis about a month ago (NL player for about 2.5 years) and this thread was definitely a worthwhile read for newer (and maybe even some more experienced) limit players |

| Well I am glad it was appreciated by somebody. I think the FL section has a lot of poker knowledge in it, especially from deadmoney314. If you want to learn more, search him and read his FL stuff. You will also run across 3-4 other posters who really know their FL game. |

Everyone, wish a happy birthday to gypsy, its coming soon. BCT, you should have some sick chops and chips by now and I'd probably not want to see you at my table.
Live play is becoming king again tbh after the AP debacle, however FTP has been solid the whole way through. I'm glad I chose to be a part of the forum and miss the debate (and even arguments) but especially the community.
If any of you pass through the midwest come play at canterbury, specifically the 30/60... you'll find a challenge if you're up for it. |

If I'm ever in that neck of the woods, I'll definitely stop by, but I think I'll have to stop by a NL table first so I can build up the Buy in for your 30/60 table so I'm only playing w/ profit and won't feel as bad when you walk all over me. |

Nice thread ... giving me alot to think about ... I'm newer and learning at micro limits ... I bang my head against the keyboard every time loveshisrags9483 draws out against my overpair or set with a ten high flush.
One thing that work everyonce in a while for me is I might call PF raises with marginal holdings from late position (middle to high suited connectors or semi-connectors, low wired pair) if I miss, easy lay down, but if i flop a monster or monster draw, I'm going to get paid off for my trouble, especially if they catch top pair, hold overpair or hit a set. Big hands, small pots, small hands, big pots. Dunno if this is what I should do but it seems put me ahead while bigger hands with a small amount of players keep me afloat. |
