I was doing very well in this tournament, until the hand right before this one, I folded 88xx UTG, then two MP players raise, reraise, then see a flop, then they're all in. Flop was 866. One had AA one had KK. I would have tripled up. I'm sure it was a ok laydown but it just pissed me off. Then this is the next hand.

Without being at the table and knowing nothing about the other players, I'd fold. You've got 3rd nuts. It's possible that someone has 1st, and I'd hope not 2nd, but you never know. I'm thinking the raiser might have hit his set and since no flush's were possible, he thought that was best. Or it's possible that he slow played the nuts and was hoping that someone got some help from that K. It's not worth calling that raise with 3rd nuts. Whether he's making a play or not, I'd let him have it unless I had a huge stack. I wouldn't wanna end my tourney life when I might already be drawing dead. Without being there, I can't tell if he made a good play or a horrible play.
I'm curious to know how the rest played out. |

| Yeah, unless you have a good read on the table, there is nothing about this play I like. I don't like the pre-flop raise. You are UTG and aside from the suited ace, there isn't much to like there. The Connections are weak, 45 is rarely making the nuts and and AQ has a pretty damn small chance at hitting. If I play this hand I limp. Next, you flopped the idiot end and got two callers when you bet. This hand is now over, it's check fold time. There is a reason it's called the idiot end and it sounds like you learned the hard way.[/i] |

I knew I would catch some flack for raising with it preflop. That part was because the table had been really weak preflop. Lots of limpers that would fold to a raise. I was also slightly tilted because I felt like I had made a bad laydown the previous hand, that turned into a good laydown, that turned back into a bad laydown. The 88 was double suited and I *almost* limped with it.
Thank you for your analysis. I was pretty sure that I had the best hand going to the turn, then when he raised all in, I thought SH!T I just ran into the nuts who waited until the turn to push that way he could get all in. Here's the rest of the hand. You'll laugh when you see what the other two players had.

MOTHER F*CKER!!
That sucks. I figured at the least he had a set of K's. Those 2 are horrible. If it was a high stakes game, I bet I'd think he made a sick play, but since it's not, I guess he's just stupid |

| Yea, after watching them play out a lot more I realized how weak they were. I'm not saying I'm amazing at omaha, because I know I'm not. But I also know I'm not bad. These two guys just kept luckboxing their way into a lot of chips. Then my flopped nut set ran into a rivered flush. The guy had no odds to make the call but did anyway, so I lost my pot sized bet on the flop and turn. I only threw bets that big out because I had the set of kings and there was no straight or flush possibilites until the river. I was able to dump it on the river but was severely wounded, so I found the next PP that was double suited and pushed in, got called by A7xx some BS hand. The A hit and I didn't improve. |

I've made quite a few laydowns in Omaha when I gave opponents more credit for their skill than they deserved.
Usually, it's when I have a hand like yours which is good but not quite the nuts, and when there are two other players in the hand who are willing to bet out or call.
I've laid down an Ace-high straight when the board made a flush possible and one opponent bet out and the other raised -- only to watch somebody's set take down the pot.
Best thing to do is to take notes on these guys and try to trap them when you do have the nuts. And remember that even a weak player could still have the nuts, and a bad laydown is cheaper than a bad call or a bad raise. |
