I have total respect for anyone that makes a living playing poker. With that said there are some players that get on other peoples nerves ex)Phil Hellmuth but I would like to know what peoples least favorite player is or even the ones that they find boring to watch on tv.

Hellmuth and the mouth are probably my least two favorites. Although i do respect and applaud their ability to play, they act like spoiled children.

I agree - I don't like Hellmuth. As amusing as he can be, he's also really annoying most of the time - maturity is a GOOD thing.

Josh Arieh. What a Dick. He's a hell of a player though. I'll be eternally impressed by a flush laydown he made in the 2004 main event against John Murphy. He called Murphy's turn bet on a flush draw which came on the river. Unfortunately the river card also made Murphy a boat. Murphy bets, Arieh thinks for a second and folds the made hand he was drawing to. Don't know how he did it but it was fantastic...He's still a Dick though :]

Gotta love Hellmuth. He's our hometown hero. Not that I've ever refered to him like that until just now, but he's from Madison, WI and so am I. So we share similar roots

Damn, I hate Josh.
I didn't mind him, until the 2003 championship. I laughed when he was beat-down.

This was one of the few good poker hands they showed throughout the whole telecast of the Main Event in 2004. Murphy had been betting his set the whole way and Arieh had been calling. A decent player like Murphy had to think that a flush draw was a definite possibility for Arieh. When the flush card hit the river and gave Murphy a boat, Murphy figured he could maximize his profits by going all-in here, knowing Arieh would have to call with his flush. But if Murphy was decent, he had to know Arieh could in fact be on the nut flush draw. Would he move all-in, risking everything, here without a full house? When I play with bad players at the $1/$2 NL tables, I will often make the play that Murphy made here. The players I play with, are not good enough though, to put me on a full house and they DO call with their flush. By moving all-in here, Murphy was hoping that Arieh had a flush, and Arieh knew that. If Murphy had made a weak lead here, or even a check, I don't think Arieh in that circumstance would have merely called the bet or checked it behind him. A good player will bet big with the full house here, knowing the flush has to call, and he will check or make a small bet with a hand that a flush beats, hoping to showdown his cards. If John checked here, Arieh would have made a large bet and John could have raised. If Arieh had enough left, he probably would have folded to the check raise, which is a slightly easier laydown but Murphy would have extracted many more chips in the process.

All these guys can REALLY play, and I respect them for that, but some of them show a gross lack of maturity.

Josh Arieh - Yeah, his lay down was major league, but his table image is definitely little league. Frustrated child with a huge ego

Phil Helmuth - "I guess if it wasn't for luck, I'd win every time" ~nuff said

Mike Matusow - "The Mouth" - Perfect nickname. Check out the article in the current CardPlayer magazine. This guy's a bit un-balanced. Even the other pros speak poorly of him. Howard Lederer and Phil Gordon chatted him down in the Charity Tournament last night pretty harshly.

The play from these guys makes me appreciate the guys who are great and recognize that you can still be a gentleman and a world class player (Chris Ferguson, Dan Harrington, Doyle Brunson, etc...).

I was really pleased to see Ferguson "suck out" on Phil Hellmuth in the finals of the Heads Up Championship. Of course, Phil went on to win it, but Chris showed the kind of classy guy he is while Phil went "full tilt" for a while. Smile

I didn't really have any "un"favorite players...but after reading the colum on the latest CardPlayer Mag about "the mouth". I would have to say it's him. I mean WOW.
Let's see....he's a convicted criminal (drug dealer), hustler, and avidly admits that he has gambled with his deed to his house many times. He also admits that money means nothing to him. The guy even admits that he lost over 200k in prison when he was there for 6 months leading up to the 2005 WSOP. Someone says he's "unbalanced". I agree 100%.

Now is that's not a degenerate, I don;t know who is....

Before I get started let me say im not scolding anyone for anything they have said. All im saying is what is the point and not a word more.

There will allways be players in someones opinion who are not favored and sometimes they may not be favored by the masses too.

What's the point?

Poker is not about the players as much as it is about the game they play and how they play it (my opinion).

There are excellent professional poker players who may be disliked by some, or even many, but does that mean you wouldn't like to know how they win those games they play? I would love to know everything I could get my hands on about those players, how they play and how they win. Wink
