I had a hand a few days ago that was truly laughable, I just switched to a laptop and didn't set my save hand histories but I'll try to put it together the best I can recall.

To summarize:
$5 Razz SnG
3 players in the hand
J is the bring-in
I'm second to act (and complete)and have A3 (4 up)
3rd player calls and has a 5 up
Bring-in calls

4th st
Bring-in has a 10, checks
I get a 2, bet
3rd player folds
Bring-in calls

5th st
Bring-in has a 8, checks
I get an A, bet
Bring-in calls

6th st

Bring-in has a 7, checks
I get a 3, bet
Bring-in calls

7th st
Bring-in checks
I get a K, bet

I end up losing to a Q low

with my A234 showing the guy kept calling and ends up winning the damn hand, lol.
I'm sure Scott & others that play alot have seen similar hands, just thought this was obscene Razz play, I guess I should've checked on 7th since I knew this quack wasn't going to budge, lol.

Maybe he pushed the wrong game at buy-in, that's about the only explanation I can come up with.

i had a guy call a raise and then my reraise with 999 showing, i won the hand.

CrazyJoe, that is a typical $5 Razz SnG. They bring some of the worst players I have ever seen. You know the odds will work out in your favor, but those kinds of hands can just ruin your whole SnG. As soon as he called with the j 10 showing you should have slowed down a bit until you made your hand. I know that doesn't seem like sound strategy, but it saves you a chip or two when morons call you down like that and you brick brick brick. (that only applies to tournaments where odds are less important than chip stacks)

I had a similar hand recently (in a $15/$30 cash game no less), only I ended up with a very smooth king low on the river. I had something ridiculous like 5432 showing - he had Q-2-9-8 (after calling with the queen on third).

For some reason, I decided to check the river, and proceeded to kick myself several times after he checked and took the pot with a rough queen.

By the way, how come the bring-in is acting first in your description of this hand? He should be acting after you, not before you.

I found that the best thing to do at the low levels is to wait to you are pretty sure you have them beat before you bet. The standard is so low, not only that but you get alot of people who have never played it before and therefore have no idea what the hell they are doing and play for high.

when i play razz my strategy is simple. bet bet bet when i am ahead(based on what i have and what i see of my opponent), check/call if im a little behind but have a good draw, and fold if i know i cant win. is this anywhere near good strategy or am i playing horribly wrong?

Things like that are certainly frustrating. I lost a hand to someone the other day who thought they were playing Stud instead of Razz. They had a pair of aces showing and kept raising my bets. Somehow they managed to hit an 8 low on 7th street while I hit two pair on the river and only managed a 9 low. The person started asking why they won the pot since I had two pair... eventually someone chimed in telling them the game wasn't Stud. And it was in a $24+2 tournament too. Gotta wonder if people even read before entering some of the games on full tilt.

The simple explanation is that...well its a 5$ sng, and with such low stakes your gonna run into alot of players who might not even know how to play the game, I've run into situations on certain sites where a player will reraise every bet/check, showing 2 pair.
