I just read through that extranous thread and all I can say is WOW!
WOW at the level of dedication don has for his ignorance but thats not the only WOW.
I was also WOWed by the number of people that seem to want to prove him right. I am a pretty hostile individual but even I was impressed at the level of hostility displayed in that thread. Posting for the sake of insulting the guy is not at all productive and only serves to further Don's misguided notions about americans.
Don, it is great to have a strong sense of nationalism as you do, but that feeling should come from pride in your own nation not shame for others. I think the reason you are not being well recieved here is because your pride does not seem to come from great pride in your nation but rather from the fact that you are trying to put down america. You attitude simply does not come across as pro-sweeden, it comes across as anti-american.
You made some comments in that thread that I believe might have been misunderstood due to your lack of command over the AMERICAN language, however, you also made some incredibly ignorant comments. Let me tell you, I am a jewish american living in new york who witnessed the atrocities of 9/11 first hand, not on a TV set. I suffered personal loss on many levels on 9/11 and till this year (and the passing of two grandparents) I had living relatives that bore the concentration camp number tatoo's on their arms. Some of those commenst you made were insensitive to the point it no longer mattered if you were wrong or right because the way you said it was so callous no thinking person could possibly support you.
In short your diplomacy skills suck. If you only post this stuff to get people upset you are doing a perfect job of it, but if you are posting in the hopes of actually effect someone's thinking you are doing it horribly. You do not seem to have any understanding of american culture and you seem to want to dismiss our influence on other cultures as irrelevant. You side step focusing on any paticular topic and turn things into generalized debates to avoid admiting you might have been mistaken in your thinking.
In america the word we use to describe this is "subversion" and it is a tactic that is only used to avoid admiting wrong.
I just want to kno, are you really that proud of sweeden, or do you just want to bash america and/or our president?
I do appologise if my writing is a little above your reading level for AMERICAN text but this is how I think so this is how I write.
As far as everybody else in that thread goes, I was disapointed at the remarkably few posters that could not retort don's comments without resorting to personal insults or attacks. Calling the guy names does not serve any purpose in a positive way. It will only demean the side you are attempting to support. To an outside onlooker with no vested interest in either side of the 'debate' you will look no better than don.
If you want to post as a representative of america then do it in an uplifting way that everybody can be proud of.

and because swedne is only one of the 3 countries in europe that never needed or wanted your help, we got our livin in 200 years of peace of been smart, you think just that we are naive...
im kinda good in the english language but hey, im not gonna ask you to speak german, italian or swedish with me, cause in sweden i can do that couse that like publi knowledge that schools "force" us to learn, but your the last empire, o go on, nuke the middle east and make a 20 line roadway...
and yes, we helped the jews in WW2, we lost one of the biggest swedes, raul wallenberg by savin tens of thousends, nad we help hundred of thousends scandinavians |

Don, this is the root of what I am calling ignorance. You are thouroughly mistaken in your assertation that the world hates america. The fact of the matter is there is a great 'westernization' going on all throughout the world because the PEOPLE of these countries want to live like americans.
There is an important factor that I do not think you understand about america. Your culture might be very rich but it is hundreds of years of SWEEDISH culture and thats it. American culture is the conglomeration of many cultures coming together as one. Your country might have the best sweedish meatballs in the world but america has the second best and the restuarant that has them is next to a restuarant that has the second best spanish food in the world and thats next to the second best italian food and that is across the street from the second best chinese food, where you can get the second best australian cusine upstairs.
The world does not hate america. There might be some political tensions between america and other countries but that in no way translates to the PEOPLE OF THE WORLD hating america. We ALL suffer from political actions of our countries that we do not always agree with. So how can you point a finger at be critical of our politics when you even profess to not agree with your own countries politics.
You are trying to take politics down to a personal level as if every american was individually responsible for the war in Iraq. Does your news there not show when hordes of americans protest in front of a political institution here? Are you under the impression we had some kind of vote where the american people all unanimously decided to go to war?
Over 200 years ago we tried to set up a system that would be fair to everybody and called it the united states of america. That system we set up was not perfect but it made for a great foundation. We made the system so it could be change to fix any problems with it so over the course of the years that system has changed quite a bit. In time we recognized the inconsistancies and change the system to make it fair. Our system has really adapted to afford the SAME freedoms to ALL people of this country.
Unfortunately some of the system might have gotten out of hand and it has resulted in a system that SOMETIMES functions in ways that society at large does not agree with. That is the burden of EVERY goverment in the world so why should we be any different?
You have no evidence whatsoever to support a dubious claim like the world hates america. Conversly when I look all throughout europe and asia I see american McDonalds restuarants and other emulations of american culture galore. America is beloved by the people of the world. It is the #1 place people WANT to go to to live.
I believe your problem here is that you dislike George W. Bush. Well GWB does not post on this forum anymore. He cashed out his BR from FT to pay his coke dealer and when he stoped playing he stoped posting. You just missed him too. Now that you know GWB is not here anymore there is no need for you to treat anybody on the forum as if a political action of america's is their personal fault.
We are all just people here dude. You don't have to agree with every person and you don't have to disagree with every person but you DO have to treat people with the level of respect you would expect in return. For instance, if there were a horrific terrorist attack in your country a few years back and someone from another country basically told you that you deserved it, you might want an appology for them saying such a thoughtless and cruel thing. I would imagine you would want that appology even more so if you personally knew people that were killed in that terrorist atack. I would suppose, if you think you might want an appology in that situation, maybe its right for you to offer an appology to the forum members you offended this way.
Perhaps if you were the bigger man and posted an appology for saying some pretty inflamatory and offensive things others on the forum might realize the error of their ways and post an appology back for saying shallow hurtfull things.
You know if you just went about it in a different way you might even find that your political beliefs are not so ostrisized as you think they are, it is just the way you are presenting them.

| I kinda like Don, don't see how this got so heated. The swedes are harmless even if they are trying to mimic the American ego sometimes. A country that Budweiser got their bikini team from can't be all bad, i'll probably visit someday (although I won't be gambling there because I don't know how to play backgammon and PL omaha very well). |

Fine, but people should try and flame him without being ignorant and hateful. Wait, flaming people is basically about hate...hmm, I guess that makes you wrong. I didn't want you to be.
There's really no point in everybody doing a +1 disguised as calling the guy a prick. Say something intelligent in that flame. It's going to be difficult to do that without repeating what dumwaldo said, but you never know. |

| i just think the guy should be ignored. we've all seen his previous posts and its obvious theres no good that comes out of arguing with the guy. leave him be. if he continues to posts things that are extremely out of line, let the moderators deal with him. otherwise you're just letting him win by irritating you fellas. |

I completely agree, but if there's one thing you'll never get people to do on a forum, it's to ignore somebody. Trolls troll because it always works. Always. Seriously, always. People really like to say "hey I disagree with this evil person too", even if that's all they say. We like to feel like we're on the side of good, and some people care more than others about making it public.
I'm more likely to respond to somebody responding to him, because there's clearly no point in trying to convince him of anything, and nobody else shares his views, so there's no reason to respond to him so that other people will read it. But it seems that people see an easy target and want to throw an empty insult onto the pile, and that's pretty cowardly, and, in my opinion, worth responding to. |
