Hi. I was looking for people that play online for a living (i.e. their main source of income). I am contemplating the move and was just trying to gather information on others' experiences.
-How you decided to make the move? Did you just jump in the deep end hoping to swim?
-What information did you gather beforehand?
-How many sites do you play and/or do you focus on a specific one?
-Are you part of affiliate programs (rakebacks) and your experience with them?
-What limits do you consistently play? How many tables? And what is your hourly rate
-Do you consistently take advantage of deposit bonuses?
Any information would be much appreciated. Also, if you are up for chatting about it via email that would be even better. I can provide my email address if need be. Thanks! |

| well i do play for a living but i do keep a part time job to pay the bills. I bought my house and cars with my winnings but then hit a bad streak for 5 months where i lost nearly 70k. Went back to work so i wouldnt lose the everything. Its not an easy thing to do. Playing when u have another source of income is easier then playing when your rent is due. Is there any1 counting on you like a wife? kids? Def take advantage of all deposit and redeposit bonuses, i make a few hundred a month from them alone. |

I play part time and always think about the potential move to full time, but I have been around a lot of discussions about this.
Here are some personal responses though:
-How you decided to make the move? Did you just jump in the deep end hoping to swim?
Deinfately prove over a long, long period of time that you are a winning player.
-What information did you gather beforehand?
Is this your only source of income(for your family) if you go broke? You need something to fall back on. Can you re-buy in if you go broke?
-How many sites do you play and/or do you focus on a specific one?
You can concentrate on more than one, but concentrate on one that gives you the best rakeback
-Are you part of affiliate programs (rakebacks) and your experience with them?
Have one for sure
-What limits do you consistently play? How many tables? And what is your hourly rate
Whatever gives you the best $hr, usually the best balance is the level you most easily beat with 2-4 tables at least.
-Do you consistently take advantage of deposit bonuses?
This shouldn't factor much in to anything, but yeah why not

Very good pts on whether I have any dependents (wife, kid, etc.). At this point no (well none I know of). That is another reason that if any time is the right time it may be now. Still relatively young, am fortunate enough to not have a mortgage, do have a car payment for another 1.5 years. But mthly bills are at an all time low for now.
I have enough of a nest egg to give it a shot I believe. I wouldn't have a second source of income. Although I wouldn't be opposed to get something like a pt bartending job. Figured on trial period of 6 mths and then if it's not working out head back to the 9-5 grind.
The problem right now is that I don't have the time to devote to get a real good idea of how it would be. I play as much as possible but this is in the evening/weekends. Would like to put in some real time during the day but just impossible right now.
Any ideas on best sites for the worst players? Ha! From my limited site experience I have found FT to be way tighter than say Bodog at the same money levels. |

| Make sure you have very good records before you think about doing this. When you play, how long, how many tables, winnings, win/hour, what games, etc. VERY VERY good records. Spend some serious time considering those, then think about it. |

| The safer approach (and the one I advocate, for what little that's worth) is to keep doing what you're doing, and play as much poker at as high a limit as you can afford. If 6 months or a year from now you're still making money, still enjoying the game, and making more money per hour playing poker than you are at work, consider "going pro" with that big bankroll you've built up. After all that, you might find it's too savage a lifestlye and hold on to the job in the end. |
