|
|
I have been playing play money online sit & go games at Party Poker, Ultimate Bet and Poker Stars for about two weeks. I plan to start playing $5 s&gs on UB. Party Poker has $5/$1 games and UB has $5/.50 games. Is the .50 difference an important factor? I have read that Party Poker has some of the easiest competion and that UB, Poker Stars and Full Tilt have better or tougher players. Would Party Poker be a better place to start instead of UB? I picked UB because they also have $1/.10 s&gs and their $5 s&gs are .50 cheaper which is 10%.

| Yes, a $1 dollar fee at the 5s is very hard to beat. Go with the 5.50s if you insist on playing 5 dollar buy-ins or play the $10+1s on either site. They aren't any harder. |

Thanks UrbanMeyer1. Do you think I should start out with the $1/.10 games at UB? My sons and friends are telling me the $5 and $10 games are easy. But I don't think they will be that easy until I learn more and improve. I will be starting with a $200 bankroll once my EFT deposit clears Neteller. It's been5 days around noon today, 8-30-05.

| The 50 cents is a big difference. I like the FT SNGs best, because they have a great structure. |

Thanks Jaconda78. I am favoring starting at UB because they have $1/.10 games I can drop down to if needed until I get better. And I have read that FT, UB and Poker Stars have the better players and tougher competition. That's why I came here. To try some of the play money s&gs. But I haven't been able to find them yet. I've been told Party Poker has easier competiton but I think paying 20% compared to 10% that the others charge would offset the easier competition. I don't think anyplace will be easy until I get some books and improve.

| Yeah, never pay the 20% vig. I don't know how crazy the UB 1+.10 will be but if you feel more comfortable there then play it, however you have plenty of buy-ins for the 5+.50s. |

| I have played a $1.10 just for fun on pokerstars to test out this theory. they are absolutely CRAZY. It's worse than play money in my opinion. To get any kind of real poker you have to make it to the final 2-3 players out of 18. All I can say is good luck with those 1's because believe me, you'll need it. |

| I didn't know it was 18 players, if it's 9 they would be beatable as much as the 5s. |

Thanks. I wanted to start with the $5s and I will. Hopefully I can get good enough to make some money and then move up to the 10s.

Even though PP's fee for the $5 sngs is $1; their payouts are better because they start with 10 players instead of 9 like a lot of the other sites.
So if you finish in the money at PP you get 10,15, & 25 as opposed to 9, 13.5, & 22.5.
Certainly if you're new and you're trying to get some experience the .50 would add up in the long run. But, if you consistently finish in the money then I would recommend PP. I know I play there and so far this year my placing in the money is over 45% so I think in my case the extra fee isn't a big deal. And besides I have moved up to the $10 sngs on PP which have a $1 fee just like the $5 ones do. And I have finished in the money just as much at the $10 level as I did at the $5 level.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to have as much success on FT. Although I did have a stretch this weekend of 3 cashes out of 4 (and two were back to back wins). |

| But it's also harder to finish in the money with 10 people. It all evens out, and the higher rake is still there. |

I'm letting this thread slide so as not to be a Nazi about things, but I will say for the future, this probably isn't the best forum for discussion on which of our competing sites someone should try out.
I know there are a lot of sites out there, but please try to limit the conversation that might promote these other sites on our forum.
The discussion does bring up an interesting topic. In a ten person $5+.50 SNG, you have to make the money 33% of the time to break even (assuming you get 1st, 2nd, and 3rd an equal amount of the time).
For a $5+$1 SNG, you need to make the money 36% of the time!
It seems like a good player should jump right into the $10+1's where they only need a 33% cash rate to make money, and the newer players would be better off finding a different site, so they don't have to worry about beating the players AND beating the juice at the same time. |

Vigorish, aka the rake or fee. |
