Then obviously you have never bluffed someone out of a better hand or stolen blinds. |

IMO, poker is not gambling, but a skill game. I take pride in what I do. Why would people write books on a game that is 80% luck? Do you see books on how to win the state lottery? So poker has to be much more skill than luck. Yeah, you can say it's luck that you get better cards, but that doesn't mean anything. It's all about how you play the cards you get, etc. Plus the fact that the gov't recognized poker as a profession rather than a game of luck has to say something. I just wish I can remember where I read that at. I'll find it soon.
Peace! |

| Poker is without a doubt both a luck AND skill game. So yes, in some ways its gambling, because it's not ALL skill. Is it mostly skill in the long run? Yes. In the short run, however, luck plays a huge role. Hence, you can't really classify it neatly into either category. |

Regardless, if you want to voice your opinion on this, write your senator. Bill Frist (R), who is the Senate Majority Leader is planning now to bring this up and try to vote on it in Sept. before the elections instead of afterwards in the spring like it was believed.
If you support online poker, join the PPA now. There has been no more crucial time to be a part of this and your rights and privacy are at stake. Don't let others think for you, you can think and choose for yourselves.
On another note, i'm not sure why Bill Frist has suddenly turned up the heat. He is a dirty politician and my first guess is that online horse gambling is putting the pressure on so they can have a monopoly on online wagering. They have the money and influence in place to put the pressure on and would like nothing less than to see the only game where a player can have an edge crushed. It could just be that the incumbents want to use this as a "moral" wedge issue because they are afraid of being unseated. In any case, their motives are sketchy but we will lose this fight if we just sit back and hope for everything to blow over.

For anyone who got blind-sided by the premature ousting of US poker players and have winnings due:
I got mine tranferred out. Send an email to support@pokerchamps.com with your real name, USPS address, phone, player name and your NETELLER account number and email address. (Email addies at both companies need to match.) It may take a week or more to process the payout, but at least you'll have the bucks you earned. They were nice about it. I sent a thank you after I verified the tranfer and got a smiley face back.
I can't imagine it, but if you don't have a NETELLER account, you're out of luck. Open one.
Good luck! |

| Are you joking? "Hey, if you send me all your bank info, I'll transfer you $1,000,000,000,000,000.00." Seriously. My email's at the bottom of the screen - send me your bank info. Also your SSN and mother's maiden name, just for identity verification. |

Bad example. There are books around on beating the lottery, keno, and other games of pure chance that cannot be beaten. For example: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&isbn=1580420710&itm=6
Of course these books focus on hoeky ideas that violate all sorts of probability theory, so they aren't in the same league with poker books. |

| i was never trying to say that poker doesn't take skill, if i thought it was a luck game, i probably wouldnt be playing it, posting at this forum, or thinking about buying a book. i was just saying that in society, poker will be considered gambling. |

That's the point I was aiming for griffin...I thought it was implied. But good lookout.
Understandable jdub. I dislike it so much that poker is looked upon as gambling in the masses of society. If only they could see how much courage it takes to make a huge bluff in a cash game or outplay your opponent heads up, etc. |
