I was playing in PokerStars' Moneymaker Millionaire freeroll last night, doing great--after a couple of hours had something like 50K chips and was in 54th place or something. I had been playing very tight to see how long I could survive, with a little loose action here and there when it seemed right for the situation.
And then....and then...I don't know. I lost my focus (it was about midnight, I was tired), made a totally RETARDED series of raises/calls with a set (Jacks, if I recall correctly) when it shoulda been obvious that the one other person in the hand might have a flush draw. Which he got on the river. I should have gotten out of that hand after the turn but I just totally never even processed what was happening on the board. So I lost something like 70% of my stack. I zoomed from 54th position to 554th!
A smart person woulda regrouped right there. But no...I was in full tilt mode and bet the next hand just as RETARDEDLY.
WAAAAAAAH. With next to nothing (slightly more than one BB) left, I soon lost my stack, finished in 570th place (out of 10,000), and went to bed nursing my bruised ego.
If only...if only...if only I had stayed focused and true to my game plan.
Oh well, live and learn. Otherwise, I AM encouraged at how far up I was before I lost my mind, and how consistently my decisions to fold or stay held up prior to experiencing brainlock. This loss of focus in the last half or third of a tournament is the fatal flaw in my game, I really need to fix it.
I guess being aware of it is Step 1. Now as to Step 2...Any suggestions? |
