I'm trying to learn Stud. How did I play this? It just play money but fundamentally did I play it correctly? Thanks for any help.

Not that I am the greatest stud player,but I tend to play starting hands with the first three cards that are all suited(h,h,h),connected(678),or all the same(555).I do play pairs but they can be pretty tough depending on whats showing and how people bet.I usually do not bet my pairs unless it is short handed because it's not often I catch my set and two pair can get rough when it's a low two pair.

In the first hand I like your completion with an A showing(and a pair buried) because it tends to make it look like another A is buried and some players might fold to that.I tend to get a little curious when someone bets showing a pair especially when it's low (luckymomma) this tends to be a set.Maybe people will disagree with me but when luckymomma bet out in first position with 3's showing I probably would've folded.

In the second hand as soon as the K's showed I would've been out.(I think you played it fine)

I think just playing the game and seeing lots of hands will give you a feel for what kinds of hands generally win.I also suggest that you watch what everyone else is showing and try to put them on hands even when you are not in the particular hand.Another thing that I do most often in stud is to pay attention to what cards are out there so you know what outs you have or what someone else might have.for instance if someone is showing (2) sevens and someone else is showing a seven with six people in the hand,I highly doubt the person showing (2) sevens has a set or will get one.

i'm not an expert on stud, but heres my 2 cents:

on the first hand, i think i would have slowed down on 5th street. on fourth it was a good bet because you had a flush draw to go with the ace and buried KK. 5th all you had was 3 to the flush and a single pair of kings. chances are it might be good, but in a game where everyone will chase to the river, its not likely that the kings will hold up by themselves. on 5th i may have flat called and try to save an extra bet. two of your diamonds are gone, as are 1 five and 1 ace making it less likely you'll be able to pair up those cards. its also likely that drgonnie has either another 9 or a diamond or two as he went all-in after the 9d hit. your cards to improve aren't that great, so i like flat calling from here out. also i might have thought the person with a 3 had now at least two pair and/or tripped up his 3's (paired his door card). i think it was just a tough hand to get away from.

hand #2 i think you played it fine. good fold when you did.
