In this example you should definetly not check the flop. The previous point about the all in player not being a factor here is important - he most likely has junk and even if it turns out to be lucky junk he shouldnt last much longer in any event.
You most likely have the best hand and a draw - there is every reason to value bet your holding if you are ahead and protect it against being outdrawn. I generally check it down unless I hit top pair or better and I think thats a good general rule of thumb.
Checking down here is important if you didnt connect so well with this flop as the pot is not large enough IMO to justify a steal compared with the importance of knocking a player out at this time. Although the short stack is most likely dead dont make it easy on him by bluffing out the potential winning hand. With high blinds and antes letting him off the hook can come back to bite you as one or two double ups can turn a shortie into a big stack!
The minute you discuss strategy with another player during the hand you are cheating - simple as that. It provides you and him with a possible advantage in the hand vs the short stack who has enough problems and deserves the chance to double or even triple up without two guys running interference on him. |
