This is intentional spam across a few boards to give people the heads up. Use the link to read and also contact your rep by zip code.

They are on CSPAN right now live talking about it. You can stream it from cspan.org as well.

I did send a note.

Does anyone know if firepay is based in the U.S.? The parent company of neteller is U.S. based and so they would be impacted if this becomes law.

And remember, even if this passes the House, which I expect it will, it still needs to pass the Senate which will take several more months, and I expect it will be a tougher sell there because this legislation is being used primarily for election year politicing---the Senate will only have about 33 members up for re-election. There's no motivation for the other 67 to move this legislation until they see how it plays out in the house elections.

And remember to vote against the sponsors of this bill in November. If each poker player gets themselves and 5 others to vote against the sponsors that will be a lot of votes.

An interesting tid-bit

Quote:
Groups who voiced support for the legislation include the NFL (National Football League) and MLB (Major League Baseball). The two organizations issued a joint statement saying the "integrity" of both football and baseball are threatened by the continued practice of sports betting.

Rep. Berkley from Nev. attempted to introduce a bill that outlaws all online gambling. The current bill has provisions for lotteries and horse racing, which means, apparently gambing isn't gambling?. That failed by a huge margin. This will move to the senate.

As for the NFL thats absurb. They publish a injury report and every newspaper in the country prints point spreads.

Does not matter from what I understand. What they are doing here is making it so that they have the ability to make sure that your ISP provider blocks access to online poker sites. My biggest concern is what would happen if one day it passed and access was blocked so that we could no longer access FTP. How would we access our funds?

By the way, I am a little shocked by the little attention that this topic seems to have drummed up. There are 16,000 people playing on FTP at this moment, and I would say 95% of them are oblivious to what is occuring.

Can someone post info on our senators and their contact info so we can all send our representatives a personal e-mail? This is so ridiculous.

Even though I don't know much about the legal system over there, I think I can answer your question regarding access to funds. I'm assuming that new laws work similarly to here in Sweden. This means that there will be a little while at least between the time that it passes and the time it goes into effect. As long as you keep up to date, you'll probably have some time to withdraw your funds if it passes.

You can get D.C. contact information at the following:

www.senate.gov

www.house.gov

A more effective and direct way to have your voice heard is to make a telephone call or, even better, take the time talk to them when they are at local town halls. Get in touch with their nearest local office, which you can find in your local phonebook, to find out when they will be making upcoming apperances. Also, consider getting in touch with the chief of staff. You can attempt to request a telephone call from your legislator, but attempting to request the same from a chief of staff may be a little more likely.

It is much more likely that you can truly get your point across via this more personal approach than through a flood of email and traditional mail, which are easy enough to ignore or dump into a circular file.

tried that with my bills one time. BIG TROUBLE!

On a serious note though, the bill has passed the House so now you need to contact your Senators. That is the last chance to either get the bill defeated or have ammendmets added that can preserve our ability to play poker.
