I decided to give Razz a go after playing Hold 'em for a while.
Basically I get thrashed every time, lucky to win more than one hand before I run out of money. In Hold 'em I can often make it to the last table out of 90 players.
Do other players new to Razz find they get blown off the court like I do?
I find it hard to conceive that I am so good (or lucky) at one game and so bad (or unlucky) at another similar one.
If you have gone well at Hold 'em and are luckless at Razz then please reply so I know its just not me.

| Tournament Razz has much less variance than a game like No Limit Hold 'Em does. Take a look at how many pros were at the final tables for Razz in the last few WSOPs. If you don't know what you're doing, you will go bust. Keep practicing. |

You really have to pay attention to the exposed cards when playing razz. Many people new to razz don't. You also want 3 good cards to play with. It's much harder to make a good hand using only 2 of your first 3 cards than it is using all of them.
Try reading 'Play Poker Like the Pros', by Phil Hellmuth. It has a good beginner section on razz. Very easy to understand. |

| As in Holdem, you dont want to get married to a hand. And since its limit, it is so much easier to muck when hitting a brick. I see a lot of new players starting with three cards between A and 5, they max raise and chase to the end. This might work early in the game but the problem is you get used to it and it burns ya when ya hit the bigger blinds. Also read the boards, if you see your opponent with a couple of bricks and your exposed cards dont look bad but maybe they paired your hole cards, take that advantage and be aggressive, yes sometimes the donk will call ya down with high cards chasin that river but in the long run you will win out. It isnt that you have a good run in holdem but not in razz, the problem is you try to play razz like holdem, and thats the biggest mistake. In holdem you can still have a winning hand with just one or two good cards, but in razz you have to have five, no ifs ands or buts, you need five. In razz the starting cards are only good enough to decide whether to play, its the following cards that make the hand. AA in holdem can survive even if the board doesnt help the hand but in razz A23 isnt chit unless you get two more low cards that dont pair your starters. Just my opinion, GL. |

Here is a tip from the pros regarding Razz.

Another thing to remember is that when looking at the other players boards,is that they HAVE to play atleast 2 cards from the board.
You can get a good idea on how low there hand is with these 2 cards. |
