|

Hey guys, I'm a bit new to this all, love the site and the game though, fantastic group you guys got here.
Just have a question regarding "$1/$2, $2/$4," etc. This refers to the blinds, right? ie., $1 = SB and $2 = BB?
Now, if I play in a game where there is a $20 buy-in, and the blinds start at $5/$10 and we all get like $1000 in chips, how does your bankroll affect that?
Or when people say "You should have at least 300x the BB," is that referring to the casino or what have you, where you pay dollar for dollar for your chips?
Sorry if that's too stupid, but I am just a bit confused
Thanks in advance!! |

Yup. In talking about No limit games. Limit games are different, in that the blinds are half, (so $2/$4 is really $1/$2) but the bet amount doubles on the turn, so I guess it kind of makes sense that way, because you start out betting $2 for two betting rounds and end up betting $4 for two betting rounds. (I think - I don't play limit.)

This sounds like a tournament - where everyone ends up with 0 chips at the end except the winner. In which case, you should probably have about 30x the buy in in your bankroll, for a conservative approach, or about 20x the buy in in your bankroll for a riskier approach. But I'm not a big tourny player, so if someone else comes in and says something different, take their word for it.

Yeah. That's what's called a "ring game" or a cash game. The general rule of thumb is 300 BB in your bankroll for limit hold 'em and 1000 BB in your bankroll for No Limit hold 'em. |

So in Limit, you're confined to betting in increments of $2/$4 in this case?
Everything else you said helped. I'm left with one bottomline question, I guess: The blinds in tournament games aren't related to the buy-in, right? They're just kind of randomly set and increased as the game goes, and only related to the amount of chips in the game?
Thanks again!! |

| Correct on all counts. In limit you can only bet certain amounts - that's why it's called limit. The blinds in tournies are only in relation to the amount of chips you get, not their dollar value if you were in a ring (aka cash) game. |

Thanks Jaconda78!
I think I finally get it. It's just that hearing about so many different ways to play the same game got a bit confusing
Couple questions about Limit:
If we're playing a $2/$4 game, you can only bet like 8, 12, 16, etc.? And also, how many raises are allowed per street? Like when the flop hits, if I raise, then get reraised, how many times can this go on? I would guess it's a limited number of raises or is it a limited amount that can be bet, period? (Hope that's not too stupid hehe).
Also, what is a Sit-N-Go ??
Thanks! |

| A one or two table tournament that starts as soon as the requisite for the field size is met. |

Actually, you can *only* bet/raise $2 before and on the flop, and $4 on the turn and river. I think the max is a four bet. So... bet, raise, raise, raise. (For a total of $8 or $16, depending on which betting round.) |
