|
|
This is the new, official, "Sitting out" thread. Please note that you're not the first person to complain about this here, or at any other site. No site forces players who registered to quit without getting blinded off.
Can someone please do something about people starting in on the heads up tournaments and then sitting out. When two players who have decided not to stick around and who are "sitting out" end up trading blinds. This is extremely frustrating for those of us who would like a chance to win an entry into another satellite round when we have to wait for 30 to 45 minutes while the players on auto pilot duke it out.
The big downside of this is that more players drop out because of the wait so the next round has an even greater chance of having two idiots that are not playing their hands meet each other and then another long wait until the next round.
FTP should put a counter on the hands sitting out and if a player sits out for 20 hands or xx minutes, then he forteits his seat. This would keep the satellites moving.
Thanks,
Jim |

| I imagine this could be frustrating but it would lead to easier money because there is a chance that you will be against the auto sit outs next round. |

This is damn annoying. I see this happen all the time in freerolls.
This is what I propose: only when it is the last table (or tables; I've seen this happen on only one table so far), run the counter up to 20 or whatever level where both players are inactive. Then they are BOTH eliminated.
The player who busted last would get their spot in the next round. |

I have to agree with BarbadosJim, some type of counter needs to be put in place to avoid have players sitting out of games. This is not only in Heads up games but in other games. It is very frustrating to sign up for any tournaments and have someone sitting there not playing.
Sharkaway feels that coming up against someone like this leads to easier money for those playing against that type of player, but how would you feel being in a tournament and not placing because of someone not being there to play his or her hands. That is more frustrating then anything. |

| I've written to Customer Support about this issue, & the reply is that every player registered has a right to stay in until knocked out. That's all well & good, but what's the harm in just tweaking the table draw in the third round & beyond so that players who have sat out a complete round or two must face a live player? It's a bit of a sin on the random draw, but thinking of the greater good here, it does properly reward those who are sticking it out. |

I would feel like I need to improve my poker skills if someone can outlast me in a tournament by simply not playing.
That how you feel? |

I used to play a big freeroll on pokerstars every Sunday. On day I signed up then fell asleep(sat out the whole tourny). I ended way better than I normally would have. I surely changed my style of play and work harder on my improving skills. |

Granted it is a timeless feature on FTP, being an avid tournament player rises the age old question.
Do you think it's fair that participants can make it to the final table on auto fold?
I vote -1 on this feature. Whether it be freerolls, money, or PC tournaments I really don't think it's fair for a participant to make it to the final table and or possibly receive a payout without even being there. I believe if you play poker (regardless how you play it, seriously or just for fun) you should be present at the time. Anyone can click "sit out next hand" or "fold to any bet" and close the software and walk away, but why should someone place and get paid for it as well? They weren't there, so why reap the rewards? |

| If they have enough of a chip lead that they can fold their way into the money, I don't see why you'd take it away from them because they weren't there on the hand where they got knocked out. |

Absolutely. Said player put up the amount necessary to buy into the tournament. That's all that's required.

I agree. That's why there's absolutely no difference between someone being there folding every hand, and the same person having clicked the auto-fold feature. You just said (regardless of how you play it....). Some people choose to play every hand, and others choose to play some hands, and not others. Some people build up a huge chips stack, and have unfortunate emergency situations that require them to be absent from the game for a certain period of time. That doesn't warrant a penalty.

Why shouldn't they? The buy-in was paid, and he accumulated chips early on....enough chips to possibly fold ITM. That feat should be rewarded if said player wants to leave the keyboard.

Because he accumulated enough chips to get blinded into the money.
A few more thoughts. The auto-folder is at an extreme disadvantage by sitting out. The purpose of playing MTTs is to go deep into the money. One doesn't play them to fold barely into the money.
Everyone else at the table should be thrilled that there's free chips for the taking, and if any of them are too stupid to not take advantage of that....too bad for them.
Since I answered your questions, please answer (2) of mine.
Suppose you built up a huge chip lead and are getting really close to the money. You're sitting comfortably in 1st place, and you get a phone call that requires you to rush out of the house for a couple hours. Should you get paid any prize money for that MTT?
Suppose you have that same overwhelming lead as you get moved to the final table of an MTT, and get that same phone call. Should you automatically get 9th place money? |

| If you think the sitting out strategy works so well, you should try it yourself. |
