I contacted support regarding this -
In my opinion this greatly detracts from the game. I like to review the hand history to see if I was making the correct assumptions regarding my opponents play and make adjustments accordingly, so I contacted support -
Dear Full Tilt Support;
Recently I played a live Horse tournament and was informed that if I altered the order of my cards after they were dealt that my hand would be ruled dead. I have noticed that in stud games, the order of my cards is changed, seemingly randomly. This makes it very difficult to go back and try and analyze opponents play.
Is this intentional, or just an error in the software?
The response:
Thank you for contacting Full Tilt Poker Support. It is true that at all stud tables (both stud high and stud/8 or better,as well as Razz) our software automatically shuffles all players' three hole cards once the hand goes to showdown. Our pre-launch research indicated that this was a feature that virtuallyall players of these games preferred over leaving the cards unshuffled. As poker players ourselves, we realize that there may be times at which you may not want the hole cards shuffled, in order to project a certain table image to your opponents. Our research notwithstanding, we have forwarded your message to our developers to consider adding a "shuffle option" to a future software release. We thank you for your feedback on this matter. Best of luck on the tables, and if there's anything else we can assist you with, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Regards,
Tom

So what do you think? Do you like this feature, or should it be done away with? Perhaps its time for a little post launch research to see if this still holds.

I don't like it either, as it often leads to people making the wrong assumptions and getting pissed off. For an example, read the quote beneath my sig. This resulted from a debate over whether the cards were shuffled. The person who made this comment was absolutely sure her opponent reraised her on 3rd in Razz with a Q buried.
However, you have to keep in mind that in live poker, you can shuffle your cards to give whatever impression you want to your opponent. I would like it if we had the option to order our hole cards as we see fit. That way, if someone gets the wrong impression, it's because we wanted them to. Full Tilt doing it, however, often leads to undesirable results. |

I don't really understand why you wouldn't like that situation. If people don't understand that the cards get shuffled, that's an edge for you. You also benefit because he wen't on tilt. I can't really see how it would benefit you more by them not shuffling the cards. Of course it kind of allows you to pick up betting patterns etc., but usually you can figure out which two hole cards he started with. |

In a limit game, variance is high. I would rather take my chances on outplaying someone than have him forcing big pot after big pot. It increases his chances of outdrawing me, and can force me to have to tighten up too much to maximize profits. In most situations, I don't mind it, but you should know that there are certain game situations where this is undesirable. For instance, if you already have one maniac at a table, a tilting jacka** will make sure every pot gets capped on 3rd, and therefore gives everyone that stays in the right odds to draw to just about anything thereafter. Part of being successful at limit is to recognize when and how to make plays inequitable to his opponents. Once they cap 3rd and everyone is getting 12:1 or better, they're no longer making a mistake calling you down with a pair of 2's hoping to improve.
If you're playing holdem, you often have the choice to show or not show as you see fit. Why should this not apply here? If you make a bad show in holdem, that is your business, and IMO the same applies here. It should be our mistake to make. And that applies to our opponents too. |
