I went to turningstone casino from wednesday the 25th, I just got back home today. When I first got there, I played a $75 sng that had about 48 players. I got HU and chopped for $750.

The next day I started grinding $75 STT super satellites that top 2 get into a $340 qualifier into the $1650 Main Event. I played 6 qualifiers, I won entry into 3 out of the 6. I sold two of the seats to my friend, and kept one for myself.

The 3 supersats that I did not win the next round to was bc...

3 handed, I had about 14k in chps, 2nd had about 4.5k, and shorty w/ 1.5k.

I doubled up the short stack 3x in a row, via, 86<74, 77<QJ, AK<55

this was all in pre bc of the blinds and antes being as high as they were so there was no room for play... even after all those beats, i had a decent shot, shoved K9o from the button w/ fold equity and ran into AK, outflopped them, but outdrew me on the river.. standard.

the next one I failed to obtain a seat was partially my own fault for accidently raising when i wanted to flat call. (i was on 3 hours sleep) I managed to chip myself down to half of the starting stack, only to pwn back up to 4k (starting stack is 2k) when the SB open shoved for 2k at the 200-400 level and i had to call w/ AQh.. He had J8o and rivered a pair of 8s.

I got it all in a few hands later against the most active player at the table KQc<A7... lost the race.

the last one that I didnt obtain the seat was a sick hand. I had KK in the SB, and my friend who i had come down there with was in the BB. there was a shove for 900, and an all in for less for like 550. I reshove isolated (100-200 level) for about 2.9k My friend woke up w/ QQ and caught a running str8 to scoop the pot. The other short stacks had like A6o and 55.

Anyways, I still managed to profit off selling the seats and was able to play in the qualifier. The qualifier had about 99 entrants, and top 19 got a seat. I doubled up early (6k starting stack) with AKo>88 I had flopped top 2 (A K 4 rainbow) and he called my small bet and spiked an 8 on the turn, only for me to hit the miracle 4 outer A on the river... for those of you who say FTP is rigged... play live big buy in events and you will change your mind.

I ended up getting my stack to about 35k in which I knew was enough to fold out to the seat... I started having to fold AA and AKs to the 150k stack who was just open shoving every hand... grinding every1 down to a few chips.

So i play in the Main event the next day at 10am. I get a decent table with a lot of fish. I stacked up early (10k starting stack) with AKo on the button. there was a raise to 600 (100-200 blinds) and 2 callers. I had about 9k in chips and decided to flat call. (A raise is pointless here unless it is all in... it would be too risky to shove AK for 45x bb in this spot in imo.) So the flop comes A K 5 rainbow and it checks to me... I fire 2050 into the 2500ish pot, and get the intitial raiser to shove. I call pretty quickly and he has AT... drawing nearly dead.

I play pretty tight up to this point, not stealing many pots, because, well, there rather meaningless at this point, and there were raises in front of me a good % of the time so i decided to lay low until the antes picked up or I was getting favorable odds w/ a PP.

So I pick up 77 a couple obits later, on the button again... utg raises to 650 (he had been the tightest player at the table to this point, but he was solid) I put him on AA, KK or AK. regardless of his image, 2 people called behind him, so i opted to call from the button w/ my medium pair, getting great set odds. The flop comes beautiful.. Ks 8d 7d utg leads out for 1550, next guy folds, the other flat calls... I obv cant call unless im planning to fold if a diamond hits, and I wasnt sure if maybe the 9Td was out there or just 9Td or some weird str8 draw and flush draw combo, so I decided to pop it up, bc I would go broke if a non diamond str8 card hit the turn. I made it 5150 total, and the utg player folded within 3 seconds (later telling me friend that he had AA) and the cold caller thought for about 15 seconds and shipped it all in.. Putting my tourney life on the line, as he had started the hand with about 5k more than me.

I knew I was up against a flush draw at this point or possibly 88... i was just hoping it wasnt a flush draw w/ a str8 draw. I called. "If you got 88 im dead.. i call"

I table my hand before he does, and he says "well, i guess my 7 is no good" He shows the 7d and the ?

the dealer starts peeling off the turn card b4 i see his other card which i figure is the Ad... but its not... its the dreaded 9d!!

This guy is trying to stack me with my own freaking hand!

Turn: 9c

River: Ad

GG me... at least If I had won that pot I would have had a top 10 stack, in a relatively small remaining field, with a 1st place prize of over 100k... I'm sure when I go back and play more live MTTs, I will have a better result.

After that, I just played $1-$2 NL (100 max) and profited over $1k in about 35-40 hours of play throughout the 5 days.

I played in the deepstack turbo (22k starting stack, 20 min levels) and there was more bad news. I got my stack up to 65k without ever once having my tournament life on the line, only to go card dead and dwindle down to about 43k at the 2k-4k level (500 ante) I knew I had to make a move soon, and I was hoping to just open shove and use my image to take down an 11k pot if no-one calls... But my plan backfired. UTG (65 yr old lady who surprisingly plays rather well) opens for 10k, (lady in mid pos, who was one also a tight/strong player reships all in for 65kish... she has me covered... I look down at KK, by far the biggest hand I had seen in tournament play and obv move it in.. I was ready to fold AQo and <99 in that spot, just because she hadnt raised many pots, nor reshipped once the entire tourney.

UTG: Folds

Reshipper shows 6s 6d

Bo0sh79 shows Kc Ks

Flop: 6h 5d 9s

Turn 8c

Bo0sh79: 7 7 7 7 7!!!!!!!!!

reshipper: NOOOOOOO 7!

River: 4c

I wish I could say I ran bad, but I really didnt, just unfortunate in good spots. I played well and I have no regrets. Live play is a lot easier and more fun, since you can tell right away usually who you are going to stack.

In my next post, I will discuss my thought process on many of the interesting cash game hands I played, and observed.

I love watching the HPT. A lot of those players seem to be less than spectacular.

I hope to take another trip to Turning Stone sometime in August. Maybe I'll see you . . . and take your money, lolz.

yeah.. the final table of last years event showed some really weak play.. Because of that, the turnout this year had some better players... Overall though, it was a pretty weak field.

So yeah, I played some $1-2 for the first time live, as you may know I am an MTT player, not a cash game player.

The worst beat I took was when I was sitting with $... We were playing 7 handed, and I picked up Th Ts from middle pos. The kid to my right limped in for $2. I made it $10 total. every1 else folds, he calls.

Flop: Ad Td 6c

villain checks

Bo0sh79 bets $15 into $23

villain calls

Turn: 7d

villain checks

Bo0sh79 bets $35

Villain raises all in

Bo0sh79 calls $75 and is all in

Total pot= $273

River: 4d

Villain shows Tc 8d for a flush.

I get felted.

Here is a hand I thought I played well and got some good value out of.

Bo0sh79 is dealt As Ad

utg+1 limps for $2
Bo0sh79 raises to $9 from middle position
Cutoff calls
SB calls
Utg+1 calls

Flop comes 3s 7d Js

SB checks, utg+1 checks, I lead out $23 for about 2/3 of the pot.
Cutoff raises to $46
SB and utg+1 fold
I go into the tank here, this player had just gotten to this table about a half hour ago and he was playing pretty wreckless... already down 1 buy in... there are some players at this table I would have had to fold AA to in this spot, but this guy was not one of them. I reraise all in for about $75 on top.

The other player goes into the tank. Meanwhile, Im looking at the pot and figuring out his pot odds on his call. He was getting like 3.5:1 on his money, so I wouldnt have minded a fold if he had some sort of draw. He then tells me he has a flush draw, meaning he will win the pot roughly 1/3 times if he does indeed call. To induce a fold, I ask the dealer if I am allowed to show a card. I flip over the As. I told him to be careful because if I have the Js, he could very well be drawing dead. After thinking about it for quite some time, he opted to fold, and I won a nice pot.

I will discuss some other interesting hands in my next post.
